Winter Backyard Birds
Tuesday, January 19th

Enjoy an interactive bird-quiz and test your knowledge!
Join birder and naturalist, Steve Hale, as he gives advice on attracting and feeding birds, ID tips for identifying common and not-so-common Winter birds frequenting the backyards in our area, along with an introduction to the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count and how to participate.
Steve owns and operates Open World Explorers. He holds university degrees in marine biology, evolutionary biology, and ecology. He has lived in New Hampshire over 20 years and has explored most of the state. An avid hiker, birder, and experienced naturalist, Steve loves to share his experience and knowledge with others.

Good Poems and How to Read Them
Thursdays, January 14 & 28
and February 11 & 25 at 6:30 PM
This Zoom workshop will meet on the second and fourth Thursdays in January and February.
Poet and writing instructor, Zara Raab, will combine discussions of good poems and how to read them with poetic techniques. The focus will be on contemporary poets. Registration is required and space is limited.
Session 1: Racy Tales. Ballads.
Session 2: Close to the Bone.
Session 3: Telling Lyrics.
Session 4: Find a voice.

Let's have some fun reading a book together. Sign up to get a copy of the book of the month and craft supplies. Then on the 25th, we'll read and have fun together on Zoom.
This month's book is "Scaredy Squirrel" by Melanie Watts. Registration opens on January 11th.
Kids, tired of looking at a screen and being online?
Try an audiobook on CD or a playaway or the Tumblebooks app. Close your eyes, relax, and have a story read to you!

TAG Take and Make Craft: Dragon Eye Magnet
Kits will be available for curbside pickup at the Merrimac Public Library from January 19 – 22, while supplies last. Participants will need to supply their own nail polishes (including black). TAG Presents: Among Us

Download the free Among Us app to your phone. Join Kristen in figuring out who is a crewmate, who is an imposter, and who is just straight up sus. Since we will be using Zoom at the same time, you should ideally play with two devices.

What's going on around Town?
West Newbury Garden Club is hosting "Keeping West Newbury Wild and Native"
Thursday, January 14th @ 7:00 PM via Zoom
Nancy Pau, Wildlife Biologist at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and Carol Decker, former Sanctuary Director at Mass Audubon’s Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary will discuss how to identify invasive plants found in West Newbury, why they are dangerous to our local ecology, methods to control them, and why planting native is the best choice. They will share ideas from a newly formed working group to control invasive plants and promote native plants and pollinator species. Come learn about the Top Ten most unwanted plants in your neighborhood, and find out how you can join the effort to keep West Newbury Native and Wild.
The meeting will be held via ZOOM. If interested please send an e-mail to Linda Schaeffer at Linda-Schaeffer@verizon.net by Tuesday, January 12th with your name and e-mail. She will send interested participants the link on Wednesday, January 13th.
