SEPTEMBER 2022
Dear Friends,

It has truly been an honor to lead this wonderful arts organization for the last five years. I will not deny it has been a challenging time between efforts to expand our mission to include more emphasis on music performance and education—and we are well on our way—while navigating uncertainties brought about by the pandemic.

My colleagues and I have worked to re-position our music library as a more relevant and dynamic organization. The work continues and we hope Bagaduce Music can count on your support.

The search for my replacement has begun and I look forward to working closely with the new Executive Director to help ensure a smooth transition. You can learn more about the position here.

On a personal note, thank you for welcoming me to Blue Hill in January 2018 and in the months and years that followed. My husband Bruce and I will remain in the area and look forward to seeing you in the community or on the water!

Warmly,
Teresa Myrwang, Executive Director
BROOKLYN RIDER
October 1, 7pm, David's Folly Farm
Our last concert of the From Our Collection 2022 Series takes place at David’s Folly Farm in Brooksville on Saturday, October 1st at 7 pm. With an unquenchable appetite for a musical adventure, Grammy-nominated Brooklyn Rider has carved a singular space in the world of string quartets over their fifteen-year history.

This Brooklyn-based group will present an eclectic program of contemporary string quartets, including a world-premier of a work co-commissioned by Bagaduce Music and Carnegie Hall.

Take in the bucolic beauty of this 100-acre farm. Additional tickets with the premium seating option have just been made available. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear this world-class string quartet in Maine!
Enjoy this video from Johnny Gandelsman, violinist.
This performance is sponsored by:
Meredith & David Amado, Janet Simpson, and Liz & George Zentz
FRIGG ENJOYED BY MANY
Were you one of the 600?
Thanks again to all of our wonderful performers from Helsinki, Frigg! The band's three concerts in Maine launched their North American tour and our audiences gave these musicians a warm welcome! With over 300 in attendance in Belfast, and close to 300 in Deer Isle and Brooksville combined, Frigg gave our audiences high-energy performances of technical mastery we will not soon forget.
DEVELOPMENT
Our Co-Commission, Annual Campaign, and FOC Sponsorships
Please consider participating in a unique opportunity for Bagaduce Music to continue its tradition of supporting young composers. In collaboration with Carnegie Hall, Bagaduce Music is co-commissioning a new work that will have its world premiere, performed by Brooklyn Rider, right here in Maine in a few weeks. This new work by Massachusetts-based composer, Akshara Tucker, will be performed again in December by Brooklyn Rider at Carnegie Hall. Learn more about Ms. Tucker here. Gifts of any amount are graciously accepted.

We will soon launch our Annual Campaign to support our library and other operations. Some of you will continue receiving our letter by USPS, if we do not yet have a valid email address for you. Many will receive our letter both via snail mail and online to your email address. And yet others will receive our appeal only via email. Please let us know when you respond—what your preferred method of communication is going forward. We look forward to your support of our excellent and more varied programming, all built around the cornerstone of our Music Collection.

We have begun to look ahead to our next season of From our Collection, Unexpected Music in Unexpected Places as well as to other opportunities related to Music Education and Community Music Making. Please consider becoming a Sponsor of this important work. Contact Katherine Marsh, Development Associate, for more information.

Finally, we are grateful to all of the following individuals, families, businesses, and grantor organizations for their support of our From Our Collection series:

IN THE COLLECTION
The Carl Chase Compositions & Works from FOC
We are excited to announce that we have added all of the steel drum music of Carl Chase into our library collection! Thanks to Nigel Chase and the Chase estate for choosing Bagaduce Music as the home for these important compositions. These works will be available for everyone to come and browse and borrow!

Speaking of our vast collection, have you enjoyed the numerous ensembles and musicians who performed a diverse body of work this summer? Did you know that many of the performed pieces are from our library's collection? The public is invited to come by the library for a free tour and see what our collection might be able to do for your musical interests! Genres included Nordic and Scandinavian folk music, Broadway and pop music, seafaring shanties, so much more.
REMEMBERING JAN MARVILLE
We must acknowledge the recent passing of our friend, Jan Marville in late August. Jan and her husband Bob were enthusiastic supporters and generously donated the land and some of the buildings that have evolved to become our campus.

This donation "set the stage" for the next chapter of Bagaduce Music. Our sincere thanks to her family for designating Bagaduce Music as a recipient of gifts made in Jan’s memory.
