PTA Highlights
Dear Riverside Parents,

Happy May Day! It's another rainy Friday, but we are hopeful that the weekend will bring us some warmth and sunshine!

We want to remind everyone that the  STEM Fair is currently running!  We hope your students are working on some fun, from-home STEM projects. Check out the STEM Fair page for ideas and details on how to set up your digital board.

We also hope everyone is having fun with our Riverside Spirit At Home!  We received some awesome  photos of students showing spirit throughout the week--we're working on putting them up on our website so check out RIVPTA.org early next week! And see below for this upcoming week's spirit days.

And finally, we thank our Riverside community and all our families for supporting our schools and making our voices heard during this past Monday's BET vote and yesterday's BOE meeting. Please continue to make your voices heard as discussions at the town level are on-going.  We know that no matter the outcome, we will come together to ensure our students always come first.

Have a wonderful weekend!

RIVERSIDE SPIRIT AT HOME!
Here's next week's line up and remember to check out photos from this week on our website:
  • Weekly Treasure Hunt 5/4: International Flag. In honor of National Tourism Day this Thursday (5/7), put a flag of an international country in your window. The flag can represent a country of your family's ancestry, a country you've visited, one you want to visit, or one you just want to learn more about! Go on a walk and look for flags in windows and figure out which countries are represented! How many flags can you find?
  • Tuesday 5/5: Cinco de Mayo. It's not just about Taco Tuesday! Learn about the Mexican holiday and how America played a part in Mexico's history.
  • Wednesday 5/6: National Nurses Day. Thank the nurses in your life! And learn more about the profession.
  • Thursday 5/7: Crazy Hat or Hair Day! Hair or hat, show Riverside School Spirit by donning a crazy look at the top!
Send photos to  [email protected] for a chance to be featured on our website!

(Please note that by sending photos to [email protected], you are giving the Riverside School PTA permission to publish photos, without identification, to the public portion of RIVPTA.org website.)

 Riverside PTA Green News
Thank you so much for getting outside last week and participating
in the daily Earth Week activities! We hope you had fun and learned or discovered something new. Next time you walk by school, take a look at the new tree that was planted last Friday in celebration of Arbor Day. Thanks for our new tree goes to the town Parks Department, the Greenwich Tree Conservancy, and the town Conservation Commission!

We also wanted to thank all families that contributed to the Trex Challenge this year! You should be very proud of the 266 pounds of plastic bags
/film that was recycled instead of being sent to our landfill! Within our group of 41 participating schools, we came in 19th! There were only 7 Connecticut schools in our group and out of those, we came in 2nd! The winning school was from New Jersey and they impressively collected 3,132 pounds! We will receive a flower box in the Fall for our participation in this year's challenge.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC BEE STATE QUALIFIER
winner_stamp_red.jpg
We are so proud to announce that a Riverside School student, Matthew McFarlane, qualified to represent our school in the Nat GeoBee State Championships. I [Miss Arbulu] have been at Riverside for 17 years and this is a rare event--to have a fourth grader make it to the next round. On Thursday, January 30th, we honored our top 3 School Champions: in third place: Zihan Zhao; in second place: Charlie Madden; in first place: Matthew McFarlane. One week later, Matthew took the state test and was announced a qualifier (top 100 of the state of CT) to compete at a LIVE Geo Bee against other 4th-8th graders in the state of CT. Due to our current pandemic, the competition was cancelled. However, on Friday, April 17th, the participants were able to participate in a live video recognition ceremony. We are proud of all of our participants, and we encourage them to participate again next year! Congratulations, Matthew!

DIGITAL POSTURE AWARENESS
As kids and parents are at home using their digital devices in new and different settings, it is a great time to think about posture awareness. Paying attention to how we sit and hold our bodies while working and reading can help avoid stress on joints and muscles and support healthy spines. Please see
