One way that we've been asking people to share their stories over the last several months has been through our
Connect the Dots initiative, a program encouraging Episcopalians to visit other congregations throughout the diocese and tell a story about what they learned.
The program was a bit derailed with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, but there are plenty of other ways to connect with other congregations even while physically distancing. You can "attend" an online service, or help out with another congregation's feeding ministry (with proper restrictions, of course), or set up a Zoom meeting with a few people from another congregation to share your coronavirus stories. Any way you do it, we're all in this pandemic thing together and connecting the dots around the diocese is a win-win for all involved.
Speaking of winning, the time for sharing stories to enter the drawing for a $1,000 prize for your church's outreach ministry is soon coming to an end – the deadline is May 30! So get those stories in ASAP. Submit a "virtual postcard" of your visit at

Happy 1/2 Hour with the Rabbi

After last week's popular offering, Bishop Breidenthal is back with Rabbi Abie Ingber for this week's Happy 1/2 Hour with the Rabbi on Thursday, May 7 at at 2 p.m.
Every Thursday, Christ Church Cathedral's Rabbi-in-residence Abie Ingber gives a 30-minute online offering exploring Sunday’s sacred texts through the lens of centuries of Rabbinic commentary. This is a casual and light-hearted way to get to know the rabbi, interact with the bishop and maybe learn something about the scriptures - join the fun!

Episcopal 101
is a class started at St. Alban’s, Bexley, last December to equip Episcopalians and those explorers with tools and knowledge to be Episcopalian disciples of Jesus. Last month, we switched to a Zoom format and are meeting every Wednesday at 7 p.m. for about one hour.
The class utilizes Scott Gunn and Melody Wilson Shobe’s book
Walk in Love: Episcopal Beliefs and Practices
and the Book of Common Prayer as primary texts, but as the class is largely discussion based, our content also draws from the experiences and expertise of our attendees and teachers. The course is led by clergy and lay leaders alike.
Our class is growing and expanding beyond the Diocese of Southern Ohio. So far we have had attendees from St. Alban’s Bexley, St. John’s and St. Stephen's in the diocese of Michigan, and St. John’s in Youngstown, OH. Our upcoming conversation topics include Confession, Healing, and the Burial Rite.

Love surrounds 'The Valley' and beyond thanks to two Lincoln Heights she-roes

Memories and lessons learned from the superheroes and ‘she’-roes in their lives inspired two sister-like friends to act to address the needs in their community. LaVerne Mitchell and Carmen Daniels had a vision to bring food, safety and wellness to all in the community they love, and through their efforts the Valley Pantry was born. On a recent visit, Mike Eck learned, laughed and cried soft tears with LaVerne and Carmen as they talked about the past, present, and what might be possible in the future with the Valley Pantry.

Global Mission Formation Program draws record online enrollment during pandemic
Going online for the first time this spring because of the coronavirus pandemic drew a record enrollment to the
Mission Formation Program
offered by the Global Episcopal Mission Network (GEMN).
“Last year we were delighted to have 14 in the program held at the annual Global Mission Conference in the Dominican Republic,” said program coordinator the Rev. Holly Hartman of the Diocese of Massachusetts, “but this year we had 38 people enroll online, close to three times our highest in-person enrollment!”
Participants came from 19 domestic Episcopal dioceses, plus the dioceses of Dominican Republic, Haiti, Toronto and Dar es Salaam. There were about equal numbers of men and women, and ages ranged from young adults to the 70s. Eleven participants were clergy. Seven participants were returning for the second year of the two-year program.

Connecting with Procter Center
|
|
It is with great sadness and abundance of caution that Bishop Breidenthal and the Procter Board have decided to cancel all camp sessions for the summer of 2020. This was a difficult decision and one that was not taken lightly.
We know that camp is just what children and families will need when this is over. However, the safety of all our participants is of paramount importance and the seriousness of this virus can’t be overlooked. With the proximity of campers to one another in the cabins, dining hall and activities, we didn’t see how it was possible to conduct a safe, quality program with such restrictions in place.
We will all look forward to the time when we can come together safely in community at Procter. As soon as it is possible for the staff to do that safely, we will offer programming and retreats once again.
