Library Board of Trustees
Meet Our Trustees: David Braslau
What is your first library memory?
Listening to stories around the fireplace in the Children’s Room located in the basement of the historic Katonah (NY) Public Library

What is on your nightstand right now?
Nightstand? Is there a nightstand under all those books? The top four in the stack:
  1. How to Be a Good Creature, by Sy Montgomery (this year’s One Book Chelmsford selection)
  2. Snake Island, by Ben Hobson
  3. Deadly Cross, by James Patterson
  4. Practically Radical: Not-So-Crazy Ways to Transform Your Company, Shake Up Your Industry, and Challenge Yourself, by William C. Taylor

What book do you love to suggest to friends?
Into Thin Air, by Jon Krakauer, about the 1996 Mount Everest Climbing Season

Who are your five favorite authors?
In no particular order: James Michener, John Muir, J.R.R. Tolkien, Michael Crichton, Ernest Hemingway

What book would you like to see adapted into a movie?
Almost Midnight, by Paul Doiron

What book would you most like to read again for the first time?
The Borrowers, by Mary Norton. This was my all-time favorite children’s story, and I am convinced, based on how things disappear in our house today, that we have Borrowers within our walls.

Last book that made you laugh or cry (or both)?
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, by Judith Viorst. This is one of my favorite books to read out loud, and often leads to great conversations with both children and adults.

Why do you love being a library trustee?
In my nearly 20 years on the Library Board, I have seen both the library programs and the library facilities adapt in unexpected and exciting ways to support the Chelmsford community
