Nearly $1 million in grants awarded to Black nonprofits

The Hampton Roads Community Foundation recently awarded nearly $1 million in grants to 30 local Black nonprofit organizations as a part of its commitment to racial equity.

This commitment involves confronting unfair and unjust policies and practices that persistently limit opportunities for Black people in Hampton Roads and beyond.

The grants come from the Black Community Partnership Fund, which the Foundation launched in 2020 thanks to a $1 million gift from Facebook to support Black nonprofits.

The Foundation awarded grants to nonprofits with a majority Black board of directors, executive leadership and/or staff, and that primarily serve Black people.

Grants Awarded to Nonprofits Focused on Cultural Vitality and Educational Success

Recently, the Hampton Roads Community Foundation approved a series of competitive grants for local nonprofit organizations focused on cultural vitality and educational success for youth.

Grant awards were made from specific funds to a variety of charitable causes, such as programs offering hands-on arts and cultural experiences for area youth, skill-building, and tutoring services.
