Get up Get Out Cleanup nets 12,000 pounds of trash
In partnership with Spokane Riverkeeper, we met the 2020 challenge of socially distanced river cleanup. Thanks to 473 volunteers and 42 cleanup events, 12,000 pounds of Spokane River trash was removed!!

"We did it," said Forum Executive Director Andy Dunau, "by offering a combination of targeted public cleanup days open to all, private cleanup days scheduled by a group, and providing supplies and logistical assistance for DIY (Do It Yourself) cleanup." Continued Dunau, "Jule with Riverkeeper provided tireless on the ground support. It's a great example of collaboration and working to each organizations strength."

The Forum and Riverkeeper are already planning 2021 activities. Click here if you are interested in volunteering.

Spokane Waste and Recycle Directory Goes Live
Thanks to a grant from the Washington Department of Ecology, the Forum just went live with the new and improved Spokane Waste and Recycle Directory!! Check it out.

You can now search for 247 waste and 221 recycle types that link to over 400 public and private service providers. Said program coordinator Tonilee Hanson, "It's something each of us can do to support a healthy environment that protects clean water for our aquifer and river."

Over 53,000 people in Spokane and Kootenai County have used the directory this year. What a great testament to our community's stewardship values.
People's Park Beckons with New Parking Lot, River Access, and Art
A huge thank you to Spokane Parks and Recreation for leading collaborative efforts to restore the People's Park trailhead by Sandifur Bridge. The parking area is now paved, safe access to the river available and a new art installation to enjoy. Parks and Rec will be buttoning things up this spring with final landscaping and interpretive signage. The Forum hopes to add a water trail kiosk and will continue to partner with Riverkeeper to keep the area clean.

It's another big win for people enjoying the Spokane River as they walk, cycle, jog, tube and paddle. And guess what, it's FREE!!
