Dear Storm King Parents and Guardians,
The spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve quickly in the United States and abroad, with new information and new cases confirmed daily. As we continue to monitor the situation vigorously, we have also been hearing from many parents about their concerns. At this time, our highest priority remains the health and welfare of our students, faculty and staff.

For this reason, the Administration has made the decision to suspend on-campus learning and transition to online course delivery effective immediately. We are taking this action in a proactive effort to safeguard the health and wellness of our students, faculty and staff, as well as the broader Hudson Valley community.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

  • Boarding Students traveling back to campus this weekend should revise their travel plans and remain at home, if possible.

  • Boarding Students who are already in the United States who need to return to campus to pick up passports, books, electronics, and other critical materials to be able to continue their coursework remotely should come to campus on Monday, March 16, between the hours of 8 am and 10 pm to collect their belongings. If a student needs to come outside these times, please arrange a time with Mr. Lewis alewis@sks.org.

  • Students who are overseas and need items from their rooms can contact the Dean’s Office to have necessary items shipped back to them.

  •  Boarding Students who cannot return home at this time will be allowed to stay on campus following stringent health and social distancing protocols in place until they are able to make other suitable arrangements. Please contact Mr. Lewis alewis@sks.org if your student needs to stay on campus.

  • All students and faculty members entering the campus after the Spring Break, even if to just empty out a locker, will be required to check in and go through a health screening. Check-in and screenings will take place in the Student Center (back door) on Monday, March 16, between 8 am and 10 pm where staff members will be on call. Students will not be permitted to enter the dormitories or go anywhere on campus before going through check-in and screening.

  •  Day students do not need to come to campus for any reason. If a day student needs to pick up supplies, please contact Mr. Lewis alewis@sks.org to arrange it.

  • Face-to-face classes will not meet on campus, effective immediately and until further notice. Faculty will use the time between Monday, March 16, and Friday, March 20, to perfect and test our online instruction options with their students. Classes will officially resume online/electronically on Monday, March 23. Deans and teachers will be communicating with their students how their specific classes will proceed in an online environment starting early next week.

We acknowledge that suspending on-campus course delivery will create challenges for students, faculty and staff. That said, these are unprecedented circumstances, but given the rapid spread of coronavirus across New York State, the fluidity of the situation, and the uncertainty and concern the virus is causing in our community, we believe this decision is prudent and necessary.

We will continue to closely monitor and evaluate information and guidance provided by state and federal agencies in order to inform all future decisions. If you have any questions or concerns at this time, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this quickly evolving and dynamic situation. Thank you once again for your continued support.
Sincerely,

Jonathan W.R. Lamb, Head of School
