Juneteenth day celebrates and symbolizes the end of slavery in the United States. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862.
Marcus Garvey created the RBG flag for people of color in response to a song that rattled the south. He was the founder and first President-General of the  Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League  (UNIA-ACL, commonly known as UNIA), through which he declared himself Provisional President of Africa. Ideologically a  black nationalist  and  Pan-Africanist , his ideas came to be known as  Garveyism .
This day in history... Juneteenth
It was not until June 19, 1865 that all slaves were finally freed. That concluding event was when General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas with his troops and issued Order Number 3 which finally freed the last of the slaves.

The formal end of slavery was marked by the passing of the 13th amendment of the constitution.
Join us for a day-long event to fortify ourselves and our community so that we can forge forward in the fight for justice and liberation!

WHEN IS THE SUMMER SOLSTICE?

In 2020, the June solstice is Saturday, June 20, at 5:44 P.M. EDT. This date marks the official beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring when Earth arrives at the point in its orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt (about 23.5 degrees) toward the Sun, resulting in the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year. (By longest “day,” we mean the longest period of sunlight.) At the June solstice, the Northern Hemisphere receives sunlight at the most direct angle of the year. Source

Creative Conquests K-12 Virtual Art Exhibition
"This virtual exhibition highlights some of the innovative and unique artworks created by K-12 students at home through digital learning art instruction in the final quarter of the 2019-2020 school year during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kudos to the creativity of all of the students in visual arts courses and their art teachers for persevering through this very challenging time -  especially  without classroom art supplies!"
