We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Dynellia Washington to our faculty! Mrs. Washington will be teaching Computer 7, Business Management, Personal Finance, and Comprehensive Business Technology in our Middle School and High School. Mrs. Washington has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from New England Institute of Business at Cambridge College and also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. She is currently working on her Master of Business Administration degree.

Congratulations to Ms. Cecelia Mezza who is among 10 candidates for the Cavalcade of Bands Marching Band Instructor of the Year.
As one of her fellow band directors noted in their nomination of her:
"Cecelia's program has consistently presented a quality product each and every year, and her dedication to the students and their successes us very evident. Having known the York Catholic band program for many years, it is apparent she has the drive and determination to see that the students take ownership in their individua and collective success, This has been evident with their performances and with their two back-to-back A Conference wins. She is able to do this without some of the financial resources larger programs have, and with minimal staff each year."

The high school student council is collecting NEW hats, scarves, and mittens for those in need in our community. Items can be placed on the Giving Tree in the lobby at York Catholic until Friday, December 17. The coats will be donated to the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry.
The National Honor Society is collecting gently used coats for their Coat Drive. A collection box will be in the lobby until Friday, December 17. The coats will be donated to the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry.
We are collecting unwrapped new toys for the York Toys For Tots program. Collection ingathering will be Friday, December 17. Hershey Medical Center is not accepting toy donations this year so we chose another cause just for this year.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception |
Mass for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception will be celebrated Wednesday, December 8, at 10:20 AM in the auditorium. All students will be attending. This will fulfill the Holy Day of Obligation. Due to our capacity restrictions and social distancing protocol, we will be unable to accommodate guests at school Masses this year.

Tomorrow, December 3, is Spirit Shirt Friday. Students may wear their favorite YC spirit shirt in place of their uniform shirt. Students still must wear the standard uniform pants or skirt. Spirit Shirt Fridays require a $1 fee payable in homeroom to support Student Council activities for all students throughout the year.

Instruments and voices come together at York Catholic’s Christmas Concerts!
The High School concert is Sunday, December 12, at 2 PM and features the Concert Choir, Concert Band, Jazz Bands and Brass Choir.
The Middle School concert is Monday, December 13, at 7 PM and features the Chorus and Band.
Celebrate the season and enjoy the sounds of holiday spirit! Admission is free. Mask protocol and social distancing will be observed.

The Diocese of Harrisburg is now accepting nominations from students and families to honor teachers and principals with the Golden Apple Award. Eligibility requirements can be found under the “Golden Apple Award” heading on the Schools page of the diocesan website at hbgdiocese.org. Parents of Seniors:
Believe it or not, preparations are already underway for the Baccalaureate and Graduation celebration in May. We are writing with three specific updates in this regard.
First, we will be celebrating Baccalaureate and Graduation as a combined ceremony on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 7 PM at St. Joseph Church in York. Members of the Class of 2022 will have their Senior Banquet on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. Our seniors are required to attend both of these events. More details will be coming to you in April.
Second, we have emailed all of the students asking them to enter size information in a Google form in preparation for their cap and gown orders. We ask the ladies to add approximately 2” to their measured height to allow for high heels, unless they plan to wear flat shoes.
Third, in your December 10, 2021 tuition statement you will find an additional graduation fee charge. In order to assist with the expenses associated with all of the planned activities surrounding Graduation, there is a nominal fee of $100.00 for each senior. This fee includes a cap and gown, diploma, professional 5” x 7” photo of your graduate on stage during the conferral of his/her diploma, and Senior Banquet expenses.

York Catholic is offering an SAT Math Prep course for Junior students interested in getting in some extra practice before taking the actual exam. The course will run four Saturday mornings from 9-11:15 AM in classroom 207 with Mrs. Christine Staats (Jan 22, 29, Feb 5, 12, snow makeup day is Feb 26). Cost is $200 and includes the cost of the Kaplan book. Space is limited so do not delay in submitting your registration before January 7. Checks made payable to York Catholic and permission forms should be returned to Mrs. Hand in the main office.

Students in grades 9-12 are invited to enjoy an evening of entertainment, fun, and fellowship at the High School Fall Coffee House Friday, December 3, at 7 PM in the auditorium. Students (and maybe some faculty) will perform in a relaxed atmosphere. The price of admission is one non-perishable food item to be donated to the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry. Mask protocol, social distancing, and capacity restrictions will be observed.

We are excited to offer Board and Ski Club again for York Catholic students this winter. Vail Resorts has posted a new ski club program, and with that students will be able to ski with school clubs at a discounted rate. Total cost per student pass is $295, and that covers lift, lesson, and rental. These passes are not good seven days a week as they used to be; they are only good on school club nights. The deadline to purchase this Multi Week Ski Pass is December 3, and that can be done online via the following link:

Ski club offers students a ride to the mountain four nights a season, and it helps students connect with others who enjoy the sport. We will ski Friday evenings this year, and weather willing we will make four trips to Roundtop this winter. The YC bus leaves the front parking lot of school at 4:00 PM, and returns by 9:30 PM. Grades 7-12 are welcome, to include beginners, and ineligibility rules apply. Some students have already purchased an epic pass, and all students are welcome to ride the bus with us regardless of the pass that they carry.
Click here for the permission slips for the shuttle; cost is $60.00 per student and covers the season. If you would like to pay for a seat on the bus, please send in a check and permission slip by Friday, January 7. Checks should be made out to York Catholic, and all paperwork should be dropped off for Mrs. Hand in the main office.

- February 11 and 18 (make up dates)

Virtue=Strength Parent Newsletter |
The SportsLeader program, which has primarily been devoted to virtue formation through athletics, has created an expanded model to serve an entire school, parish, and/or community. This new program has a new yet familiar name: Virtue=Strength. This program is an enhancement to the SportsLeader program, yet separate as it is designed to be used by teachers and staff across the entire student body. The Athletic Department is in need of tall crutches to accommodate student-athletes who are 5'10-6'6" tall. If you have a pair of crutches that size that you are no longer using, please consider donating them to York Catholic and drop them off in the main office during regular business hours. Students in grades K-3 are invited to attend Elf Night on Friday, December 10, from 6-9 PM at York Catholic. Crafts, games, and a snack will be offered by the YC Student Ambassadors. This is a great time for parents to finish their last minute preparations for Christmas while their children are having fun in a supervised atmosphere! All children must be registered with a permission form prior to the event and space is limited. Click the button below to register. Junior Achievement's BizTown will be having a special Open House December 29 from 10 AM-12 PM or 1-3 PM for students who missed their BizTown day due to COVID in spring 2020 or school year 2020-21.
Registration is required by December 15 and will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. There are only 60 student openings per timeslot. Beginning today, we will be using this photo gallery for all school-related activities with the exception of sports.
Once you click on the link above, follow these steps:

- If you have a Shutterfly account, enter your email and password and click “sign in.”

York Catholic's Parent Referral Program is a win-win for everyone involved. Referred students receive an outstanding education from York Catholic, while parents of the referred families get peace of mind knowing their child is gaining so much more than just a top-notch education. Families who refer someone who registers at York Catholic receive a $250 credit towards their child's tuition.
You, as parents, are our best ambassadors. In order for the Parent Referral Program to be a success, we need information about individuals who may be interested in joining the York Catholic family. All you need to do is click below to fill out the form. If the family you refer attends York Catholic through their first semester, your family's tuition will be credited $250, spread into 4 credits applied to the months of February, March, April, and May.

The Parent Referral Program is open to all parents of current York Catholic students. The tuition credit is not available for referring your own children. During inclement weather that would cause a school closing or delay of schedule, York Catholic will call/text/email you through our One Call Now Emergency Notification system. Other modes of notification include WGAL TV-8, Fox43, and the YC website. Students from individual school districts are automatically excused if their district closes and does not provide transportation to YCHS. The exceptions to this are Southern and Southeastern. These students follow York Catholic’s delay and closing schedule. |
