A Message for New Families

As you know, Dogwood has been under a significant amount of construction this summer, adding a secure entrance, upgraded lighting, and many ADA accessibility upgrades (including family bathrooms!)

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions and new safety measures, prospective/new Dogwood families will not be able to tour the building once school begins on August 17. Therefore, the school will be offering both virtual tours and limited in-person tours (with masks) prior to the start of school.

Please watch the Dogwood Elementary Facebook page for updates, and pass along to any new families! You may also direct any new family questions to  Katie Laird , PTO New Parent Liaison.
READO

There is still time to complete your READO forms to earn your summer reading reward! Instructions for completion are included on the K-2 READO and the 3-5 READO forms.  Happy reading!

Road to Reopen

Heading into the 2020-2021 school year, GMSD believes that continuing education in our community is imperative. Our staff has spent many hours developing the safest ways to provide a rigorous educational experience which includes face-to-face instruction, hybrid schedules, virtual options, and programs that meet the social-emotional needs of our students. GMSD is ready to implement any of those methods as the situation changes.

Dogwood will be continuing to add important updates that are specific to our school.  Communication will be sent out every time the plan is updated. Please use the Let's Talk: A COVID Response Center to send DES your questions, comments, and concerns.  The system will quickly put you in touch with the right staff member.

Treasures for Teachers

The Germantown Education Foundation (GEF) is proudly partnering with Knowledge Tree for our fourth annual Treasures for Teachers campaign.

Our goal is to provide each GMSD teacher with $100 for classroom supplies. Knowledge Tree is graciously adding $20 to each $100 gift, making your donation go even farther.

We are reaching out to community partners, such as you, to sponsor a GMSD teacher.

For your $100 sponsorship:

* Your individual or business name will be on your sponsored teachers' Treasure For Teachers gift card
* Your name or your business name will be on large print media displayed at each school for the entire year
* You or your business are invited to a public recognition of sponsors and announcement of the additional funds during a district-wide kickoff at our GMSD teacher in-service in the fall
* Media coverage at the in-service with City Alderman/Staff present; including social media recognition, website recognition, and public promotion
* In-kind donation letter for tax purposes

Please click here to fill out the sponsorship form, and then click here to pay for your donation.

Questions? Please email the Germantown Education Foundation.  Thank you for helping our teachers get the supplies they need! We thank you, and our teachers thank you.
Books that Represent

Two GMSD alumni, Rachel Lazure and Stephanie Barton, are raising money to donate four books that feature people of color as protagonists and/or celebrate black culture to every kindergarten and 1st-grade classroom within GMSD. GMSD has not only supported their idea but agreed to match any donations raised! Their goal is to help promote multicultural literature that not only properly honors and reflects the lives of minorities but also fosters self-empowerment, cultural pluralism, and fresh perspectives for students and teachers alike. Click here to support their efforts!
