Reminder!

Please do not touch the tulips - A LOT of time, effort and money goes into maintaining our beautiful flower beds every year. We all LOVE the way the tulips look, but over this past week, many planters and flower beds are being dug up! Every year we evaluate which bulbs can be recycled for another season to help alleviate the costs and still have beautiful flowers all around Dover.

When/if there are bulbs to giveaway, we will be sure to let everyone know the logistics so we can socially distance and safely share bulbs with those interested.

In the meantime, be sure to get out there and see the flowers, take pictures and send your favorite ones to publicaffairs@dover.de.us
so I can share some in the next edition!

Many thanks!

Annual hydrant flushing has started! This is done to proactively pull out discolored water from our distribution system. While the water may be discolored, it is tested regularly and meets all local, state and federal requirements related to drinking water. Thank you for understanding as we continually work to improve our infrastructure. CLICK HERE FOR FULL SCHEDULE.

Dover Skate Park
Traction is growing to build a first class skate park in Dover. Last week the City was advised that we’ve received a small recognition grant from Tony Hawk’s Skatepark Foundation. For those who aren’t into skating, by many Tony Hawk is considered the premiere skateboarder in the world.
We are hopeful the recognition grant will lead to other possible funding opportunities to make the Dover Skate Park a reality.

Our friends from the
DOVER 4th OF JULY COMMITTEE
posted the following on their
Facebook page the other day!

A little smaller this year, but still a BANG!

The Dover 4th of July Committee is moving forward with a smaller celebration for 2021, including a patriotic parade sponsored by the American Legion and a fireworks display. We are closely watching the situation and hope to add some additional surprises as we get closer to the big day. Public health and safety will guide our decisions as we move forward. Please continue to monitor our website and Facebook page for updates.

The Dover 4th of July celebration is funded by donations from individuals and local businesses. We recognize the financial impact this pandemic has had on so many of our friends and neighbors and we ask that you consider a donation in whatever amount you can afford.
Visit our website for sponsorship options or to donate on-line

Spring Cleaning?
Dispose of Excess Properly!
Decluttering is a great way to spark joy this spring…if you do it the right way! Be sure to properly dispose of common hazardous waste like aerosols, cleaners, nail polish, mercury thermometers, moth balls, etc. Practicing responsible disposal helps protect your family, community and environment. Learn more at DSWA Household Hazardous Waste Collection

In Dover, we pay by the number of cans picked up for recycling versus the weight (like we do for household trash). Not only is recycling the right thing to do, it saves you and the city money by reducing the cost we pay at the landfill.
Last year we saw an increase of 53.52 TONS of recycling (that's 107,040 pounds!)
Let's keep it up and encourage everyone to recycle more!
For more information on what can be recycled CLICK HERE

LIMB LOSS AWARENESS MONTH
According to the Mayo Clinic, approximately 54% of all amputations are the result of vascular disease and 45% are trauma related. The remaining 1-2% of amputations are the results of cancer or a congenital deformity. In addition, the Amputee Coalition of America estimates there are 185,000 new lower-extremity amputations each year in the U.S. alone.
Realizing the need in our area and seeing an increase in patients, Ashley McKenna, PT, DPT, MS, COPT, recently joined Premier Physical Therapy, located at 642 S. Queen Street in Dover as the Director of Limb Loss Services. Ashley has started a support group for those with limb loss and invites anyone to join them at their next meeting on May 22nd 10am-12pm. This is free for all to attend, you do not need to be a patient or client to participate. Everyone in Dover affected by limb loss is welcome.

USDA Increases Emergency SNAP Benefits for 25 million Americans
Starting this month, households that had not received at least $95 per month in increased benefits through emergency allotments during the pandemic – because they were already at or close to receiving the current maximum benefit – will now be eligible to receive additional benefits. Benefit levels will remain unchanged for households that have been receiving increased payments of at least $95 per month. States may need a few weeks to update their systems and get the additional benefits to participants.
