Dear Families:

I hope that all of you had the opportunity to recharge and enjoy time with family and friends over the fall break.

As you can see below we have a number of concerts coming up this month and I am excited to be able to host them in our new Performing Arts Center. This is a state of the art facility which strengthens our district's commitment to energize and enhance the spirit of our community. Standing on the stage and looking out to the seats, you would have no idea that this is actually a middle school performing arts center---it really is magnificent!

We have started offering a limited activity time at the end of each lunch period. We are taking advantage of our warmer weather, giving students an outside opportunity for fresh air during this time. We plan to have Field House 1 and 2 as options once the weather gets cooler, but we will have to limit the number of students due to space, but this has greatly improved the lunch time experience.

All of our students have begun brainstorming ideas for their Community/ Action projects. This is a student led group activity which aligns with our IB standards as well as provides for the power of student voice. We are also doing this in every grade level---please read more about this further down in the OT News.

Continue to let us know if we can do anything further to assist your student in reaching their full potential and brilliance.

Sincerely,

Jason Boll
Interim Principal

Winter Break Extended to a Full Two Weeks - No School Dec. 20-21
The start of the 2021-22 school year has been a challenge for everyone as the global COVID pandemic continues. Students and families, teachers and staff have been working hard to return to in-person learning.

For the mental and physical health and well being of all, the School Board unanimously approved a calendar modification adding two days to winter break in order for everyone to re-energize. Winter break has been extended to a full two weeks and now includes Dec. 20 and Dec. 21 as no school days. School will resume on Monday, Jan. 3 as originally planned.

Community/Action Projects Begin
This week all of our students started to dive into a project to help a need in a community. 8th Graders started their Community Project.

For the Community Project, 8th graders will be working with a group of 1-3 students on a project of their choice.   8th Graders will be picking their groups and topics next Wednesday It is a student driven project with time built into the day to collaborate with team members.

6th and 7th Graders started an Action project with their Advisory class. The Action Project's goals are to work collaboratively as a class to make a change in a community.  All projects are in the brainstorming phases.  Please ask your student what community they are thinking about helping, what needs does that community have, and how can they help that community?

Projects will be completed by Feb. 11th.

The Clay Target Shooting Club is looking for new members.

Students in this club use firearms to shoot small flying targets. It’s safe, challenging, and fun!

Before joining, all students must complete firearm safety training. Seventh - 12th grade students are eligible to join this spring. Sixth graders should complete their firearm safety training this year, so they can compete the next year.

Please contact Coach Plantz for information about the club.
