Legislature Acting to Extend Some COVID-19 Protections

The Legislature is poised to address some of the fallout from the recent Michigan Supreme Court decision that vacated Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s COVID-19-related executive orders.

Today, the Senate passed legislation preserving expanded unemployment benefits during the pandemic and permitting public bodies to meet virtually. Action was also taken to tie-bar MMA-supported legislation to shield employers from frivolous and baseless lawsuits arising out of COVID-19, a procedural move intended to strengthen the likelihood of passage and avoid a gubernatorial veto. The Senate’s work today tees the bills up for House action on Tuesday, 10/13/20.
