An academic bilingual community fostering global citizenship
Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:

Thanks to our amazing presenters and to Anne Moore, our school counselor, for showcasing different career paths with our students at this year's Career Fair. Please click here to see a few photos.

I am excited to meet our SLP Class of 2033 tonight at our Kindergarten Information Night. The program is from 6:00-7:00 pm. It is always exciting to get to meet our new students!

During Physical Education classes next week,  Pros of the Rope  will partner with Sr. Watkins and Sra. Huss to offer a "Jump Rope Residency." Thanks to our PTO for their sponsorship of this program!

As you are aware, we continue to learn more about COVID-19, we are continuing to encourage students to practice healthy habits. Please see the hand washing link below from our Health Office for more information. Also, please click HERE for information from the National Association of Psychologsts about how to talk with children about COVID-19 to help reduce anxiety.

Have a great week, and keep reading!

Sincerely,

Corey Maslowski

From the Health Office... Please Wash Your Hands
According to the CDC and MN Dept of Health, the most significant things we can do to protect our students and ourselves from contagious conditions are the same preventative practices that we promote every year during cold and flu season:

  • Wash hands for 20 seconds (or sing Happy Birthday song twice). Washing hands often with soap & warm water can greatly reduce the spread of germs. Click HERE to watch a brief, 3 minute video about proper hand washing technique from the CDC.
  • Students should stay home when they are sick to help prevent others from catching your child's illness. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. This is how germs get into our bodies.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes. Use a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes, then dispose of the tissue. When a tissue is not available, teach your child to cough or sneeze into their elbow.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces or objects. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.

LUNCHROOM - We Need Daily Volunteers!
For everything to run smoothly, we ideally need 2-3 volunteers daily in the lunchroom. Can't stay the whole time, no problem. Walk-in help is always welcome. All lunchroom volunteers come to door #1, sign-in, grab a (neon orange) visitor name tag, and we'll direct you across the hall to the cafeteria! Thank you in advance for your help!

Application to Host an Amity Intern Now Open - Fall of 2020.
Each year PSI welcomes eight Amity Interns from Spanish speaking countries who assist our teachers in the K-5 classrooms. These interns are either pursuing or have recently completed a college degree with an education focus, and are between the ages of 20-30 years old. Amity interns live with PSI host families one semester allowing both an opportunity for greater language learning and cultural exchange. Please consider hosting an Amity Intern for a semester. A unique and wonderful experience can benefit your entire family. Plus, it's a great way to give back to the students, staff and entire community. Want more info? Please check out the FAQs or email us at psiamity@gmail.com . Ready to sign up? Go to PSIparents.com , click Get Involved and select Amity Intern to find the Host Family application. Fill yours out today!

Not able to host, but interested in supporting the Amity program in another way? The aunt/uncle family is an extension of the host family and supports both the intern and their host family throughout the intern’s stay. This is most successfully achieved when the aunt/uncle family takes the initiative to reach out and communicate frequently with both parties. This effort allows families to build lasting connections with one another and brings a sense of community to the intern. The more involved the aunt/uncle family is with the intern the greater the opportunity is for language learning, cultural exchange and lasting relationships for all.

Go to PSIparents.com, click Get Involved and select Amity Intern to find more information about the Aunt/Uncle role along with the Aunt/Uncle application . Fill yours out today! Thanks for considering these amazing opportunities!
