Beyond The Surface.
The Real Life Stories of the Youth Project

The Youth Project is honored to work with so many brave teenagers, willing to share their lives with us.  Each month, we'll bring you firsthand accounts of pain, trauma and hope -- from the teens themselves. Here are a few of their stories.

"SCV Youth Project helped me learn how to love myself"

"SCV Youth Project helped me with dealing with problems in my life that have had a big impact on my emotional and mental state.  Dealing with sexual assault and just self damage.  The program has helped me so much."

"Going into this semester my issues had gotten a lot better but I needed help dealing with the emotional residue that they left behind.  This program helped keep me safe because my counselor let me know someone was there for me and wanted to help me.  Relationships with my friends have improved tremendously and I have learned so much."

"At first I was really nervous to talk to someone but after the first and second session I really felt safe.  I was able to talk about all of my struggles and learn new ways to better handle them."

"I will walk away from my time with the Youth Project with a better understanding of myself and hope for the future."

"I lost my father when I was 9 years old.  I became depressed and lonely.  This program helped me a lot and I feel a lot better."

"My experience was very well.  I feel a lot better and have healed a lot from these meetings.  I am super grateful I was able to be a part of it."

"When I first started in the motivational group I wasn't happy or comfortable with who I am and my body.  I wasn't in a good place.  I had suicidal thoughts. On top of that my parents were always arguing and were obviously not happy together.  But I always looked forward to going to group because I'm able to talk it out with my counselor and other students that are also in the group.  Things are now getting a lot better.  I am now comfortable with myself and my parents are separated but for the best.  I really liked this program and I hope it continues because it really helped me and it will help others too."

"I will walk away from my time with SCV Youth Project with better control over my actions and less anxiety."

"I really liked how I was able to talk about anything and always feel comfortable and safe"
