Weekly News & Updates for the LPA Community                        June 12, 2020
Having a ball by pooling their energy!

Lake Pointe families are now traveling more, vacationing, hiking and camping, and more. These students took to the YMCA pool to take advantage of blue skies and an open calendar.

Families and fun at the Drive-In
Mr. Miller's family had good seats!

Last Tuesday, about two hundred people took advantage of wonderfully cooler weather to take in a movie at Hound's Drive-In in Kings Mountain, NC.
Lake Pointe rented the outdoor theater for a private, summer event for the LPA community. Families new and returning, students and alumni -- and their families took part in fellowship before the film.

Reminder: Pray for the people of Guatemala

As Mr. Miller has shared, we can be supporting the needs of children
and families in Guatemala this summer.
Those needs are considerable, but ours is a great, great God! So, please pray! Lake Pointe families can continue to support Clubhouse Guatemala, a ministry that Lake Pointe has supported for years. Prayers and donations through their web site are two practical ways to effectively aid the children and families that ministry serves.
Videos to share awareness are on the Clubhouse Ministries, web site, as are prayer requests and  needs. Please visit the web site here.

Athletics
Mr. Spratley has a plan for summer sports to start soon. See below.

Teaming up for future success
Summer sports starting soon
According to Mr. Spratley, "Games are fun, but it's the practices that are the most important part of the athletic program."
Mr. Bill Spratley, has summer sporting events ready for the starting line.
LPA's athletic director spent the first weeks of summer break working through channels to ensure coaches and players could operate safely.
He assembled a committee of parents, coaches, and staff to consider the major factors related to the Covid-19 concerns.
Then, starting with the specific guidelines from the organization that sets policy for the state's public school sports, Mr. Spratley addressed the major areas of safety concern. He articulated how LPA could best honor the  aims of each guideline, and to diminish those not really applying to LPA's size, offerings or operation.
Now that operating measures are approved, actual summer events can be placed on the calendar. A committee meeting is scheduled for June 16 to move things forward.
Effectively, it has taken the AD and coaches all these weeks to get back to the starting line, where they would normally like to be in planning, but the proactive approach of sports to the virus concerns has a silver lining. It provides a working example of how the academy is preparing for all-program operation in the fall.
