WANDERERS AND ALIENS: THEY ARE US
For faith communities, immigration issues are as old as Abraham and Sarah. Today there are more displaced people in the world than ever before in recorded history. Founded in 1939, our ELCA arm, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), in the beginning worked primarily to assist Lutherans. However, in coordination with other faith communities, federal and state governments and the United Nations High Commission LIRS has continued to assist those people in need for more than eight decades.

|
Interfaith Welcome donations for families in need through the Immigration Hospitality Ministry at San Antonio Mennonite Church were delivered on Thursday, June 17.
Donation Coordinator Gloria Hanna shares, “Pastor Marcus, Jeanne Palmer and I all went to meet Pastor Garland and take everything there. We had a good visit. At the Hospitality House we met a couple of ladies that they are still helping, and he was expecting more arrivals this week. The Hospitality House has a lot of rooms, and there is a motel for housing a whole lot more people. If they ever need more help Emanuel's will help any way we can.”

FUNERAL MINISTRY MEETING
Sunday, July 11, 2021
Is hosting friends and family your spiritual practice? We invite you to join us for a conversation and overview of Emanuel’s new Funeral Hosting Ministry Sunday, July 11th, immediately following worship, in the Family Life Center.
While providing refreshment has been an important part of our funeral ministry, we are pivoting to a hosting ministry as we celebrate the lives of our loved ones. It is our hope that we will have many Funeral Hosts so that teams can rotate with ease. And we have new Emanuel's aprons coming, as well, for this caring group!
If you are interested in this opportunity to serve, or have been previously involved, we would love to talk with you and share what we are doing. Funeral Ushers, or people interested in ushering at funerals, are also encouraged to attend.
