Due to National, State, and County directives and orders, we will not be gathering at St. Hugh's for some time. Indeed, both our Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and our Bishop Susan Brown Snook have asked us to comply with the civil authorities and suspended all church gatherings and meetings for the foreseeable future.
Please continue to make your regular financial contributions to support the ministry of Christ through our St. Hugh's Church community.
See "Partner with us for ministry" later in this email for more details.

Online Eucharistic Services

As we shelter in place, perhaps visiting a church you might otherwise never visit appeals to you. You could go to one of these two nationally known churches in our Episcopal tradition. Both have excellent video and audio presentations of the Eucharist. Last Sunday (3/15) the National Cathedral hosted
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry as its preacher and Mariann Edgar Budde, the Bishop of Washington, welcomed folks from her self-isolation (having been exposed to several folks who tested positive to Covid-19).

The Readings for this Sunday
Year A
In this Hebrew scripture story the Lord sends Samuel to anoint David to be the new king over Israel. God has rejected Saul as king but he remains in power and Samuel must go secretly on his mission. As so often happens in the Bible, one who seems least likely in the eyes of others is chosen by God to carry out the divine will.
The Lord is shepherd and guide. God is present in the time of danger and is generous and merciful.
In this New Testament lesson disciples are called to be a people of the light, forsaking all the works of darkness. Their present life is to be in sharp contrast with their actions before they became Christians. All that is done is to be exposed to the light. The passage closes with what was probably part of an ancient hymn used at baptisms.
Our gospel is the story of Jesus’ healing of a man born blind. Jesus brings light into a dark world. Many people of the time regarded the man’s blindness to be a result of sin, but Jesus helps him to see, at first physically, and then spiritually as well. The man withstands the criticism of the religious officials and worships Jesus as the Son of Man and his Lord.

Listen to Bishop Susan's Lenten reflection exploring the theme of "Turn." That is, turning away from those things that lead us away from God and turning more fully to God and a godly life. She reminds us all that "The joy of Lent is not that we are guilty, but that we are forgiven."

Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Members and Guests of St. Hugh's
I really miss getting to see, pray, sing, and worship with you at our beloved St. Hugh's. I regret that we are unable to provide a space for so many to gather throughout the week and for special events. I look forward to the time when we can gather again and can share our wonderful building and grounds with our neighbors.
Meanwhile I remind you that even though we may not be able to be physically present at church, our facility still requires our attention in meeting the ongoing expenses for utilities and all those other things that maintain our building and grounds that are unique in all the Diocese.
Neil (our Treasurer) has fashioned a Corona Virus Budget (CV Budget) for our Bishop's Committee to discuss and adopt.
Please continue to make your regular financial contributions to support the ministry of Christ through our St. Hugh's Church community.
This can be done by simply mailing in your check (PO BOX 506 in Idyllwild), or you can use our Online Giving page. Thank you for your ongoing support. Blessings to you.
