Shave The Peak
right now.
It's already working!
“Man, it’s a hot one, like seven inches from the midday sun.”*
Just like the classic tune, and just like yesterday, we’re heading into peak electric use territory this evening. Yesterday, even Pittsfield’s “Pittsfield Generating” peaker plant started to fire up in anticipation of high demand on the grid.
As you can see from this real-time chart from ISO-New England, though, we’re not hitting as much demand as was projected for today, and as folks start to #ShaveThePeak, demand is already dropping as of 4:55 PM!
Even this lower amount of actual use (yellow line), is enough to bring the dirtiest peakers into service. We can keep it below projections if we all pitch in to #ShaveThePeak. As we continue through a string of hot days, cutting energy use between 5 and 8 pm helps cut down our dependence on these high-pollution, inefficient peakers plants.
