UPCOMING OPTIONAL eLearning STUDENT / FAMILY ACTIVITES!
Friday, March 20th is Crazy Hat / Crazy Hair Day!

Our second optional all-school activity is an opportunity to let your imagination fly! What do you have laying around that house that can be used to make a crazy hat, a wild hairstyle or fun mask? This can be a student activity, or if you're brave, parents can join in the fun!

A folder will be set up this Friday morning, 3/20 for students to turn in photos of their creations. Please have all pictures turned in by 2pm on Friday. What will your hat, hair, or mask theme be?
Monday, March 23rd is Lego Build Day!

Here's a fun optional all-school activity that can be started anytime over the weekend! Stacking these colorful bricks can lead to some fun sculptures! What will your student's theme be? Will your child design a building? A simple machine? Celebrate their faith in legos? Create an animal? The ideas are endless!

A folder will be set up on Monday morning 3/23 for students to turn in photos of their builds! Please have all pictures turned in by 2pm on Monday. Ready, set, construct!

2 More Days Remain! St. Francis Xavier Parents: We NEED your input! Don't Delay!
Dear St. Francis Xavier Parents,

The purpose of this letter is to request your feedback to help identify and prioritize opportunities to improve our school. Below is a link to a new survey that we will be conducting this year with the help of the Archdiocese of Chicago.  This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.

The 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:

Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction

Prior research has shown that schools that were strong on at least three of these “5Essential” indicators were 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on three or more Essentials.

All teachers and 4th through 8th grade students will be responding to this survey. 5Essentials Reports will be generated for schools if their teachers and/or students meet the response rate threshold of 50 percent. These reports will be sent to schools and districts in June 2020.

Additionally, our district has chosen to provide the 5Essential parent survey. If at least 20 percent of St.. Francis Xavier parents complete this survey, a parent supplement report will also be generated.

Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

The 5Essentials Survey will be conducted February 19 – March 20, 2020 To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/archchicago/survey/parent/.

Sincerely,

Sharon M. Garcia
Principal

Parent Rosary--E-learning Edition #2

Wednesday, March 18th at 8:00PM

Parent Rosary--E-learning Edition #1 was a success! A lovely way to start the day, praying with familiar faces and voices. We are not as isolated as we think or feel!  We adjusted a couple things, hopefully, to make our prayer a bit smoother. As I said, this is a work in progress!

1. The Skype link will be available at 7:45PM for people to join the chat call, troubleshoot (if necessary), get set. The Rosary will begin at 8:00PM attempting to be respectful of your time.
2. We will pray each decade with a "leader" for each decade. The leader for that decade will pray the first part of a specific prayer (Our Father, Hail Mary, etc) and the group will recite the 2nd half. With the delay in sound, this will make praying as a group smoother and more "in sync."
3. If you need a "visual aid," here's a link to the parish website for "How to Pray the Rosary.

All are welcome! Moms, dads, children (even the not-so-quiet-ones)! Let me know if you have any questions!
