MUSINGS
Job 23:8-9 gives an image of Job physically turning around, but never seeing God. Perhaps this is because God is always behind him spiritually, so he has to turn around spiritually to see God, which is what the whole Book of Job details -- Job turning spiritually away from the world (his lost wealth and unhelpful friends) and towards God's Will.

Matt Miller
Dr. Matt Miller is a trained medievalist who decided the most useful thing he could do in the world would be to teach children how to read and write, and pursue the threads of medieval mysticism through the Dark Ages into the time of Jesus ..

Session One: Thought

“You only see the tree by the light of the lamp. I wonder when you would ever see the lamp by the light of the tree.”
~G. K. Chesterton, Manalive

What does it mean to have the mind of Christ? In this session we will explore what it means to think with the mind of Christ. Working with 1 Corinthians 2:2-16, we will
explore thinking and knowing in relation to being-known by God in Christ. What does it mean to be known by God? What does Jesus reveal about God’s knowledge of created life? And what are the implications for how we think newly about what it means to be human and how human life is cultivated?

Stay tuned to next week's newlsetter for the Zoom link and more details.
FAREWELL FROM ALONZO+
Sisters and Brothers in Christ Jesus,

I am almost never at a loss for words, but I struggle to convey the great depth of my appreciation for your stunning and remarkable kindness in affording me the blessed opportunity to be one of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church’s Clergy in Residence. It has been a stirring walk with God and a delightful journey with so many who so love God. Your many kindnesses have meant so much to me, and I am stunned by how good God is and how wonderful you are. Rebecca is simply an extraordinary Senior Warden; one of the best I’ve met in thirty six years of ordained ministry, across the country. Maggie’s wisdom and sensitivity seemed evident throughout. The opportunity to serve at God’s Altar with David and Lee is a blessing I’ll never forget, and David is the only person I’ve ever known who serves at a Church whose churchyard is blessed with the sacred remains of his Great-Grandmother!!! (It just doesn’t get better than this, this side of the veil.) Branch and Melody have been so welcoming and kind, and I weep when I recall what great pals I’ve become with Bill and Craig. I am very grateful for Suzanne’s kind assistance, and hearing Renee’s harp each Sunday must be like the music that surrounds God (at least some of the time). I can honestly say that everyone at Christ Memorial redefined kindness in the life of a near 70 year old man !!! And I met Helen Mitsui !!!!!!!

Be assured that there is in this one heart, an eternity of gladness for you.

Love in Christ,
Alonzo +
UPCOMING
Ash Wednesday and the Season of Lent
Due to Covid, Bishop Fitzpatrick has asked that we not dispense ashes this Ash Wednesday. This is a disappointment to many of us but we want to be safe and cautious.  We are all looking forward to next year when Covid is behind us!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS TO BEGIN THE SEASON OF LENT:

  • Where am I spiritually as I begin Lent? When am I more focused on “me” than God?

  • Where is God calling me to change direction?

  • When I wake up on Easter Sunday morning, what change would I like to see in me?

  • Is there a habit or sin in my life that repeatedly gets in the way of loving God with my whole heart or loving my neighbor as myself? How do I address that habit?

  • Is there anyone in my life from whom I need to ask forgiveness or pursue reconciliation?

  • What practical steps am I taking to carve out time for daily prayer?

  • What spiritual discipline can I continue to improve upon?

  • What virtues do I want to focus on this Lent (ie: patience, charity, kindness, gentleness, etc).

If anyone will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
-Mark 8:34
Welcome Back Chanterelle
Chanterelle will return February 21. Our technology guru, Branch Lotspeich and Chanterelle have found a way to allow Chanterelle to play from her home for our 8:00 am and 9:30 am services and appear on our 9:30 am zoom service. We are happy to have her back with us!

We are looking forward to the time when Covid is a thing of the past and we can all worship together in person again!
Thank You Renee!
Renee Janton has been playing the harp for us since Christmas. Her beautiful music has richly blessed us during our worship services, and we are grateful.

We thank God for Renee’s time with us and wish her many blessings.

Helen Mitsui Shared Blessings Thrift Shop in Kilauea is seeking Volunteers for 2021.

Each volunteer shift is a 2-4 hour commitment for a minimum of one day per week. Experience in Retail, Customer Service, and/or Retail a plus, but not required.

Volunteers are invaluable to serving our community. Our goal is to reuse, repurpose and recycle goods — keeping as much as possible out of landfill — while providing our community with access to reasonably priced, quality merchandise.

Here are ways you can help:
* Greeters welcome shoppers and monitor our COVID guidelines.
* Customer Care helps shoppers to ensure a pleasant shopping experience.
* Merchandisers organize departments, restock the floor and display retail goods.
* Philanthropy distributes merchandise to organizations in need.
* Donation Intakers receive, sort and process donations.

Work-from-Home volunteers help prepare merchandise for sale. We are especially looking for help in these areas:
* Games: checking games to ensure all components are intact
* Stationery: packaging up cards and envelopes
* Holidays: preparing merchandise for Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Valentines, 4th of July, and more
* School, Office, Art Craft Supplies: organizing and packaging materials for reuse
* Toys: sorting, cleaning, and packaging toys
* Hardware: sorting and packaging tools, materials, electronics and appliances

Requirements?
*Team players with a genuine interest in serving the community and contributing to the reuse movement.
* Willingness to support COVID-19 safety measures set by Shared Blessings
* Physically able to lift 50 pounds (Merchandisers and Donation Intakers only)

Benefits?
Serving the community and our environment is rewarding work. We have a lot of fun! New merchandise is donated daily, so the element of surprise and wonder is constant. Get a first peek and more!
