JUNE 20 PEACE MARCH PLANNED
A Saturday, June 20, Freedom March is planned as the Greater Mankato Diversity Council and the Minnesota Hip Hop Coalition co-sponsor the 2020 Juneteenth observance in Mankato. Kenneth Reid, director of African American Affairs at Minnesota State Mankato, is among featured speakers.

City-wide Electric Slide at Mankato's 2019 Juneteenth celebration. The annual observance marks the anniversary of the 1865 end of slavery in the U.S.
RACISM: ITS IMPACT ON EDUCATION
SIX BLACK EDUCATORS SHARE INSIGHTS
“The Effects of Police Brutality and Racism on Black Students and Professionals in Education” was the focus of a Thursday, June 4, webinar hosted by Kenneth Reid, director of African American Affairs. The panel of black educators included Henry Morris, vice president of Diversity and Inclusion, and Jeffrey Brown, assistant professor in the School Psychology Doctoral Program. Topics included changes in law enforcement education, evolution of racism, profiling and desensitizing of black students and racial stress that is "literally killing" black communities.

MAVERICK RETURN TO LEARN
POST PANDEMIC LEARNING
As the Fall 2020 semester draws near, summer plans at Minnesota State Mankato include various planning and classroom scenarios. Class delivery is seeking a FlexSync format. Plans as they currently stand are posted and updated on the new Return to Learn website. Information shared at the University's June 3 virtual Town Hall along with video highlights are part of the CSU Blog post.

College-bound questions for students and families preparing for Fall 2020 enrollment are addressed in a new Minnesota State Mankato podcast hosted by Dr. David Jones, vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. As the fall semester nears, particularly during COVID-19, the podcast offers candid and informative interviews with key University staff.

A new video by the Centennial Student Union reaffirms the CSU's role as the heart of campus. Amidst COVID-19, the CSU remains committed to being the students' House of Serendipity. The programs and services may not look the same, but the CSU spirit of Maverick Pride will continue to invite, involve and inspire students. ALERT: Watch for the post-credits scene!

NO SLOWDOWN FOR GROUNDS CREW
One area of campus at Minnesota State Mankato that hasn't experienced any COVID slowdown is the University Grounds Crew. Keeping the campus clean and pristine is an ongoing task. Grounds Supervisor Bruce Leivermann shares how the crew is spending a summer that is seeing an increased use by the Mankato walkers and dog owners.
ESPORTS WINS!
COVID NO MATCH FOR GAMERS
While sports fields, courts and courses remain on a slow pace to recovery, one area of competition has flourished - Esports. That is true at Minnesota State Mankato where gamers participated in a successful tournament last month. The popularity was the focus of the Student Affairs latest "Maverick Moments."

DACA ENDING BLOCKED
COURT RULES 'ARBITRARY & CAPRICIOUS'
On Thursday, June 18, the U.S. Supreme ruled against a measure by the Trump administration seeking an end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The court ruled the decision to end DACA was "arbitrary and capricious." The ruling stops any immediate action to end DACA and sends the issue back to Homeland Security.
