CORONAVIRUS INFORMATION FROM THE IFEA
At the core of every festival and event industry professional, is a Type A personality whose comfort zone is in their ability to control things. Challenges and problems are our specialty and we excel at solving them; quickly and efficiently. We control the problems, control the fallout, and move on to the next challenge. Which is why the current COVID-19 (coronavirus) global pandemic is our worst nightmare. We can’t control the virus. We can’t control the response. We can’t control the fallout. Which leads to global frustration and stress.

HOW CAN WE HELP?
At the IFEA, we have a vast list of resources available to our members. You may have already tapped into some of those but with so many others available, we thought we’d dedicate this week’s IFEA Update and Events to sharing some of the most valuable ones that could potentially provide assistance, guidance or knowledge to you and your event during this unprecedented time. We’ve also included a few great tips and resources from key industry partners that we thought could help as well. For even more resources, be sure to check in at ifea.com or give us a call at +1 208-433-0950.
We Are Your Association. How Can We Help?
UPDATE FROM THE CDC REGARDING MASS GATHERINGS:
The CDC, in accordance with its guidance for large events and mass gatherings, recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 10 people or more throughout the United States.

KALIFF INSURANCE ANSWERS YOUR INSURANCE QUESTIONS
There is no higher priority for Kaliff Insurance than the safety of your staff, families, and patrons. With the global spread of the COVID-19 virus, we are all suffering the negative effects of media coverage, quarantines, limitations, and cancellations of public gatherings and events. Kaliff Insurance has received numerous inquiries from our clients pertaining to the applicability of insurance to potential exposures during the outbreak and we would like to share some of the most commonly asked questions and answers.

KEEPING YOUR CUSTOMERS INFORMED DURING BREAKING NEWS
One of the foundation principles of an integrated ticketing and website platform is the ability to quickly and easily create and publish communication to your customers and patrons. Especially during emergencies, when clear, concise communication is absolutely KEY. Saffire has taken great care in designing and building a platform that provides the kind of on-demand communication abilities we all need during times of public health crisis.
AN IMPORTANT DISTINCTION BETWEEN OFFICIAL CDC GUIDANCE VS GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS' PREDICTIONS
There is an important distinction between official CDC guidance versus government officials making predictions. CDC guidance can form the basis for people in the Festivals & Events Industry to seek relief from contractual cancellation penalties, because it makes a strong case that coronavirus renders nearly any public gathering impracticable, triggering the force majeure provision in their contracts. By contrast, national health officials speaking individually don’t make policy (and some of them have been contradicted by other national officials).

SPONSORSHIP PERSPECTIVE AND ADVICE FROM BRUCE ERLEY, CFEE, APR
I wanted to put to use my 40+ years of experience in the festival and special events world, having weathered a number of very difficult periods from 9/11 to the Great Recession, to provide some perspective and advice to you as to how we all might respond to these difficult circumstances.
SCAM ALERT FOR FESTIVALS, EVENTS AND VENDORS
The Oregon Festivals & Events Association just made us aware of an attempted Scam Alert that we wanted to pass along.  Vendors from a canceled event have been contacted by someone claiming to be helping the event refund monies. The vendors were being asked for banking information. This particular event producer had already reached out to all vendors to let them know of the process - so the vendor was able to recognize this and alert OFEA to the scam. Thank you OFEA for sharing this with us. If you hear of any other scams out there, please forward them to Beth Petersen, IFEA Membership Director at beth@ifea.com .

COMMUNICATION WITH VENDORS KEY TO PLANNING
As we all deal with the uncertainty and changes brought about by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) Pandemic and the difficult decision for many of whether to cancel or postpone an event, we urge you to remember that your vendors/suppliers are also your partners and a valuable resource during this time. Be open and honest with them about your event status and concerns, and don’t hesitate to ask how they might be able to help and work together with you. Most vendors are in these relationships for the long-haul and are looking for your business not just today, but for years to come. Many are also dealing with the effects of COVID-19 in their own businesses and can understand and appreciate the multitude of challenges that presents. When business does return to “normal”, and operations need to ramp up more quickly than ever, you’ll be glad you kept those communication lines flowing.

Powered by MultiView, the IFEA Event Resource Marketplace helps you find the industry products and services your organization needs, from equipment rentals, to parade props, and everything in between.
