Dear Marquette Campus families:
I pray that this letter finds you all well and adjusting to learning in this remote way. I am writing to let you know about some changes that will be made to our at-home learning program once we return to school
after Spring Break on April 20
th
.
When the initial word about school closures came from the Governor, we anticipated returning to school on April 6
th
. As you know, that date was not only extended to the end of this month, but we have been advised to make plans for the possibility that we may not be back for the remainder of the school year.
Because of this, we have moved from an initial thought that we would help students maintain their learning for a couple of weeks, to the realization that we will need to move forward with teaching new concepts. Therefore, we will be making a few adjustments, especially at the Kindergarten through Grade 4 levels.
When we return from break, we will increase the amount of time your child should be doing “classroom work” to allow for more instruction. For Kindergarten that amount will be between 30 to 60 minutes per day. For grades 1-2 the time will be from 60 to 90 minutes per day, and for grades 3-4 the range will be from 90 minutes to 2 hours per day. Note: these times should be broken up into a couple of learning sessions per day rather having your child complete their work in one sitting.
Preschool classes will remain at 30 minutes per day. We believe that a preschooler’s day should remain play-based. Your child’s teacher will be suggesting many fun ways you can promote learning through play. The 30 minutes of instruction per day (done in two 15-minute time blocks) can focus more on letter and number work, but can also include the time that you spend reading to your child.
The reason this is a range is that just as in a regular school day, activities and lessons change from day to day. Some activities take longer than others. Beyond these formal lesson blocks, you should also continue to read to your child and do other educational activities such as baking, playing games, or writing letters to family members. These are also enjoyable and valuable ways for children to learn. When your child is in school, they spend their days involved in many different things including playing educational games that support a concept, discussing things they are learning, and doing activities that are based on their units of study. They do not spend the entire day sitting in their desks working from a workbook. The home situation should also be a balance of sit-down work time and other related activities that help make that learning understandable and real.
In addition to this added learning time, we will also be changing our weekly schedule up a bit. Wednesdays will now become “Specialist Days.” The teachers in Music, Art, Spanish, Guidance, Band/Orchestra and PE will use this day to introduce you and your child to some activities that can be done on Wednesdays or over the course of the week to grow in these areas as well. Library will remain on Fridays, because that is the time that Mrs. Bestul has scheduled her live story time for both elementary campuses. While most of the teachers in these special areas will be posting their activities on their individual teacher pages (which can be found
here
), the classroom teachers will also include needed links so you can easily access these lessons.
Classroom teachers will use their Wednesdays to be able to attend some virtual meetings with colleagues, plan lessons, do some follow-up on student work, and other necessary tasks.
We know that remote education is not easy for many families. We understand that many of your schedules may make the Google Meet sessions difficult to attend, we also know that some of your work schedules make setting times for learning difficult during the regular school day. We hope that we have made our lessons flexible enough so that you are able to work with your child regardless of your family’s current schedule. If, however, you are having issues with completing tasks for whatever reason, or if your child is having difficulty with learning new concepts, please reach out to the classroom teacher via email. She will be happy to assist you, or if she sees a need, she may reach out to our Learning Services Department so they can help support your child. We are here to help your child be successful in this new learning environment.

This week will be a shortened one due to our observance of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter. The week following Easter is Spring Break. From Holy Thursday afternoon through Spring Break, our schools will be closed and staff will not be available for emails. We hope you will also take this break time to celebrate the great feast of Easter and to spend some time doing things you enjoy as a family. There will be plenty of time to get down to learning after break, so enjoy this little bit of rest.

Rezo para que esta carta los encuentre a todos bien y se estén adaptando al aprendizaje a distancia. Le estoy escribiendo para informarle sobre algunos cambios que se realizarán en nuestro programa de aprendizaje en el hogar una vez que volvemos a la escuela después de las vacaciones de primavera el próximo 20 de abril.
Cuando fue publico el cierre de las escuelas por parte del Gobernador, pensamos que regresaríamos a la escuela el 6 de abril. Como saben, esa fecha no solo se extendió hasta finales de este mes, sino que ahora se nos ha aconsejado que hagamos planes para la posibilidad de que no volvamos por el resto del año escolar.
Debido a esto, hemos cambiado de un pensamiento inicial de que ayudaríamos a los estudiantes a mantener su aprendizaje durante un par de semanas, a que ahora tendremos que seguir adelante con enseñando nuevos conceptos. Por lo tanto, haremos algunos ajustes, especialmente en los niveles de Kindergarten a 4to grado.
Cuando regresemos del descanso, aumentaremos la cantidad de tiempo que su hijo(a) deberá estar haciendo "Trabajo de aula" para permitir más tiempo de enseñanza. Para el nivel de Kínder, esa cantidad será de entre 30 a 60 minutos por día. Para los grados 1-2, el tiempo será de 60 a 90 minutos por día, y por grados 3-4 el será de 90 minutos a 2 horas por día. Nota: estos tiempos deberían ser dividido en un par de sesiones de aprendizaje por día, no esperamos que su hijo(a) complete su trabajo en una sola sesión. Las clases de preescolar permanecerán a 30 minutos por día. Creemos que el día de un niño(a) en edad preescolar debe permanecer basado en el juego. El maestro de su hijo le sugerirá muchas formas divertidas de facilitar el aprendizaje a través del juego. La mayoría de los maestros en estas áreas especiales están publicando sus actividades en sus páginas individuales en el sitio web de nuestra escuela, además los maestros de clase también incluirán los enlaces necesarios para que pueda acceder fácilmente a estas lecciones. Esta semana es corta debido a nuestra observancia del Jueves Santo, Viernes Santo y Pascua de Resurrección. La semana siguiente a la Pascua es vacaciones de primavera. Desde el Jueves Santo por la tarde y durante las vacaciones de primavera, nuestras escuelas estarán cerradas y el personal no estará disponible para correos electrónicos. Esperamos que usted también tome este descanso para celebrar la gran fiesta de Pascua y pasar un tiempo haciendo cosas que disfruta en familia. Habrá tiempo de sobra para aprender, así que disfrute de este pequeño descanso.
