Weekly BobBlast Issue 301
Painting Window Reflections Using My Goof-Proof Color Wheel
A Brief Demo!

Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!
This BobBlast starts with a quick color study in my sketchbook - the concept is Windows.
My demo starts with a simple and strong graphic design for a focal point of Red. I am using my Goof-Proof Color Wheel, so the dominant color is Blue-Green and the final two colors are pure Spice… Yellow and Violet. I also add White and Black.

My set up includes plenty of one gallon water buckets, big brushes, hand barrier cream and paper towels. The surface is a Cheap Joe Extra Fine Art Board, 20x20 inch.

The Demo
Start BIG with just your dominant color Blue-Green - actually, I use a variety of blues to create depth and interest - I have fun goofing around at the beginning. It’s like jumping around in the surf first before swimming.

Let your Dominant Color dry thoroughly before the next step. Now it’s time to work on the Focal Point Color and design. Excited to see where it’s going, I paint in the two Spice Colors near the Focal Point Color. That’s how my wheel works with any subject or technique.

I never make a decision about a painting until I live with it for awhile… at least overnight. I hang it on the wall so I can look at it. I will let it rest and move on to start another painting in the series.

Keep watching the video - there is a Bonus Track!

One of my goals was to focus only on colorful light reflected on a surface wall or floor. I was inspired by the stained glass light shining from inside Notre Dame Cathedral - a side trip during my Workshop on a Riverboat Cruise in Paris. My concept is “Windows.”

Here is your invitation to join me in painting your own Window concept, as a part of a virtual exhibit.

If you haven’t already - Commit to your concept, choose a color combination and a composition. When you are finished with your painting, sign it, take a photo of just the artwork (no mat or frame). Here’s what to do next to join our virtual exhibit of Windows:
  1. Click on this link https://www.facebook.com/groups/RobertBurridgeStudioWindowsVirtualExhibit
  2. OR search in Facebook for Robert Burridge Studio Windows Virtual Exhibit
  3. Join the group
  4. Post your work!
  5. Add your name, title plus more info.

Looking forward to seeing your work!
Thanks again for watching and telling your friends! All my BobBlasts are archived on my website and my YouTube Channel . We post new studio tips weekly that offer real content, substance and useful techniques that work for me. And they're free! We appreciate your interest, questions, comments and support!

Some of our subscribers have asked about the "behind the scenes" people who make the weekly BobBlast possible - so we want to give a shout out and thank Bo von Hohenlohe for editing the BobBlast videos. Bo also produces websites and helps authors self-publish book. Please visit his website at www.bvhprods.com .

Below is a list of featured workshops - but did you know that I also offer private sessions in my studio? Perfect for beginners who want a crash course in watercolor or acrylic or for artists who are designing an exhibit and want to bounce ideas for content and techniques. I devote 100% of my studio time to you! Designed for 1 to 3 people - if you are interested or have questions, email [email protected]
