Between 11 am and 2 pm, experience the William Paca Garden come to life as the fabulously dressed gentry of Colonial Annapolis gather to celebrate Mr. Paca’s birthday! Yes, this Signer of the Declaration of Independence was, in fact, born on October 31st. We invite you to come stroll the garden in a costume of any era or style and join in the celebration – no tricks, all treats!

There is no bigger moment in the life of the American democracy than when voters head to the polls to exercise their rights as citizens to appoint a new leader. For curators at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, there is no clearer mandate than the presidential elections every four years to collect and document, to record and preserve the objects that capture the times.
Smithsonian Affiliations and the National Museum of American History present a roundtable discussion of scholars discussing the hard choices and years of experience that they bring to collecting objects and documents from presidential campaigns for the nation’s collection. Join a moderated conversation allowing audience members to ask questions and contribute their thoughts. This is a free lecture offered in partnership with the Smithsonian Affiliations program.
Historic Annapolis is a one of only 6 museums in Maryland to be recognized as a Smithsonian Affiliate.

2020 Architectural Fieldwork Symposium Starts Thursday |

This event is free to attend, but pre-registration is required. Please register for each day that you wish to attend to ensure that you have a space reserved!
Architectural fieldwork and survey are the foundation of all preservation activities, and this annual event brings together field surveyors, architectural historians, preservation planners, and related practitioners from across the state to discuss recent projects, themes, and methodology.

The Watershed Stewards Academy (WSA) has launched an initiative to make this easy and affordable. It’s called Groves of Gratitude.
With its Replant Anne Arundel partners, WSA’s Groves of Gratitude initiative provides Anne Arundel County residents with single native trees and pre-designed, native tree bundles to plant on their properties this fall. (Sorry, this is not offered to City of Annapolis residents.)
There are many options and trees appropriate for many different types of needs and locations. Learn more and order your trees before the deadline – Monday, October 26.

FY2021 COVID Relief Grants for the Arts Program |
|
Grants will be broken down in two categories: Independent Artists, and Arts Nonprofits or Businesses that solely employ artists or performers. The fund will provide $250,000 in funding for individual artists and $750,000 for businesses and nonprofits to support losses due to COVID. All applicants must be a resident of Anne Arundel County.

Preservation Maryland is currently recruiting for an Advocacy Associate to join their team and participate in their wide-ranging advocacy efforts and programs.
This is a full-time, 12-month term position (with opportunity for continued employment dependent on future funding) exempt position which will work on state and local policy for Preservation Maryland, with a focus on coordinating local coalitions and advocating for plans, legislation, programs, and policies that foster economically vibrant, socially equitable, and environmentally sustainable communities.
Preservation Maryland is currently recruiting for a Property Redevelopment Project Manager to join their team and support their dynamic redevelopment program. This is a full-time, 12-month term position (with excellent opportunity for continued employment dependent on meeting revenue goals) which will manage the day-to-day operations of Preservation Maryland’s new historic property redevelopment program. The program focuses on restoring, rehabilitating, and revitalizing historic structures and the communities in which they reside.
