Cover Story: Fall fishing frenzy on the Chesapeake Bay

"Rocktober" is fast approaching, a popular time for opportunistic Maryland fishermen. Plummeting autumnal water temperatures in the Chesapeake Bay spark a shift in rockfish behavior, leading swarms of the striped bass to deeper waters along channel edges – and in hot pursuit of angler bait.

The summer and fall season, according to regulations for 2022, began Aug. 1 and extends to Dec. 10. During this time, anglers are able to keep one striped bass per person, per day, with minimum size being 19 inches.

Fall fishing on the Chesapeake provides an opportunity at catching more than just rockfish. Chances at bluefish, spot and perch, though not as common, are still possible.

Movies on the Beach: 'Hocus Pocus' playing next week

Haven Harbour South invites you to Movies on the Beach, seasonal showings of classic family-friendly films taking place on our harbor beach and sunset deck.

To help usher in the autumn season, and happening on the eve of Rock Hall's 25th Annual FallFest, we present a licensed public screening of the fan favorite "Hocus Pocus" (1993, Fantasy/Horror, 1h 36m, PG). This event is opened to the public with free admission, and will begin next Friday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. Although seating is available, we strongly recommend that attendees bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.

We will also be welcoming attendees to visit the nearby Admirals Club Beachside Bar that evening to order snacks, dinner and alcoholic beverages.

Annapolis Boat Show: Plan your outboard re-power project with us

2023 CONTRACTS

Management has sent 2023 slipholder contracts and renewals, which are due with payment by tomorrow, October 1. With unprecedented demand for slips, we ask that current slipholders let us know if they do not wish to renew their contract no later than today, September 30.

ROCK HALL ELEMENTARY SOCK-TOBER DRIVE

The marine store at Haven Harbour Marina will be a sock drop-off point for the month of October. Rock Hall Elementary School is collecting donations of new socks to help keep families warm this winter.

DECOMMISSIONING FOOD DONATIONS

As a friendly note to our wintering storage customers, the marine stores at Haven Harbour Marina and Haven Harbour South will be providing donation boxes for any un-opened food items to be donated from your vessel to a local food bank before being hauled and/or decommissioned.
