FOSP MEMBER NEWS | December 2021
Dear Friends of St. Philip’s members,
During this time of year, we often reflect on days past. In 2021, we continue to see the toll the pandemic has wreaked on so many. I am thankful for you and your support of this organization, which strives to help those who show up every day at an organization that champions children—both those who attend St. Philip’s and the kids who call this incredible place home for after-school tutoring and sports. The community center supports the elderly with social programs, so they are not lonely every single day, and the hungry with a food pantry so that families can work and learn. And it sustains those wanting to have a relationship with God by holding a church service on Sundays led by Judge Mark Murrell and Kellee Murrell, George T. Lee, Jr. School Principal.
The job of FOSP is to honor and support the faculty and staff for all they do. How can you help us? Renew your annual membership, come to the food pantry, or join a committee or the board. Please email me at tinastansbury@me.com

Four dates, four venues, and four times the fun! What a blessing it was to finally gather on Nov. 3 for Bingo, BBQ & The Blues on the campus of St. Philip’s. After reimagining the event for four different dates and multiple venues, chair Martha Johnston demonstrated her tireless vision once again when inclement weather forced us to make the last-minute move from Klyde Warren Park to the Snyder Activity Center.
More than 310 enthusiastic new and old Friends came together for a special night of fellowship and fun that raised over $150,000 to further the mission of St. Philip’s. Our amazing hosts, Chris Arnold and Laura Harris, set the tone for an evening of incredible blues music by Dallas’ own Sam Johnston and his Nashville band, Eddie Dean’s barbecue, and prize-winning bingo. Celebrity callers, including Dr. Terry Flowers, Principal Kellee Murrell, Marty Turco, and the Sirois brothers, were a huge hit. Guests also enjoyed the chance to support St. Philip’s through a fabulous raffle, a giant bingo card-inspired Wishing Wall, and the surprise live auction of a Dallas Cowboys autographed football. We are so grateful for the leadership of Martha and her hardworking committee, who navigated numerous obstacles with creativity and care to make this inaugural fundraising event a reality. We hope you agree that Bingo, BBQ & The Blues was well worth the wait.

Faculty and Staff Appreciation
We continue to look for creative ways to show appreciation for our outstanding faculty and staff. FOSP board member Dee Dee Hoak, who leads our faculty and staff appreciation efforts, organized a back-to-school lunch in August. A La Carte Catering and Cakes provided box lunches and each employee was presented with a red rose as a token of appreciation.

On December 9, Friends of St. Philip’s organized the Employee Christmas Lunch. Each employee received a Target gift card, drew a raffle of another gift card ranging in value from $10 to $50 for restaurants or stores. Lunch was provided by Llegacy Catering and served by both FOSP and SPSCC Board Members. During lunch, another four prizes were drawn, a gift card for Al Biernat’s, 50,000 American Airlines miles, and two $100 bills.
