Earth Day/Día del Niño Celebration

For the first time, CABE Pajaro Valley participated in the City of Watsonville's Earth Day/Día del Niño Celebration. The event took place on April 24th and was very successful.

We both gave the children of Watsonville the chance to make a salt dough pendant decorated with flowers and provided information to parents about the dual-language programs in Pajaro Valley Unified.

This was part of our advocacy efforts to expand the dual-language programs in our district.

Upcoming Events

In May, we will be meeting to share things we learned at the statewide CABE conference and to create a committee to choose this year's CABE Pajaro Valley scholarship recipients.

We will also be celebrating El Día del Maestro y la Maestra in May and hope to use this event to build our membership.

META Chapter Hosts Dynamic One-Day Conference

Chapter 8 META, Patterson Multicultural Educators Transforming Achievement
META hosted a one-day conference (Activating Our Students' Multilingual/Multicultural Repertoires: Intersections of Language, Race, & Power) on April 30th in Modesto. Jamila Lyiscott, an aspiring way-maker, a community-engaged scholar and nationally renowned speaker, opened the day to a full program of dynamic workshops.

It was definitely a a day of learning, collaborating and networking on how to open the door to the possibility, promise, and potential of success in and beyond the classroom for all students!
For decades, South County CABE 65, located in the southwestern corner of San Diego County, has existed and thrived for a singular purpose: to provide scholarships for college-bound multilingual graduating high school students. Many of these scholars are the first of their families to pursue a university education, creating uplift and pride for their schools and neighborhoods.

Funding for the scholarships emerges from annual professional learning opportunities for parents, educators and school administrators organized by the CABE65 team. Through a win-win provision of a yearly mini-conference, the professional learning of the adults creates scholarships for youth. The bilingual students obtain the scholarships based on their outstanding records of academics, multilingualism and goals to improve their lives, their families' opportunities and their communities' wellbeing. Even through the pandemic, the volunteers and members of CABE 65 managed to pull together virtual professional learning conferences and the same number of scholarships, one for each public high school in the region. Leaders and volunteers in CABE65 vow to continue to ensure scholarships for bilingual scholars in the future. Read more about them at https://www.cabe65.org/
