Opening of the 2020-2021 School Year? And Parent Feedback on Distance Learning. Like you, we have many questions about what the opening of next school year will look like. VERY BRIEFLY, please note the following:

  • Weekly Conference Calls. We still have weekly conference calls with the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). They are uncertain as to how schools will open, but they hope to provide guidance to us by the end of July.

  • Three Options for School Opening. The three obvious options are:
  1. Distance Learning Model. This is how school operated from March 30 until May 31.
  2. Back to School as Normal. This would be bringing everyone back to school in full attendance.
  3. A Hybrid Model. This is a model that is in between the two previously listed, where some students attend one day, others attend another, etc.

  • We are acutely aware of the countless variables associated with each option. In fact, there are so many variables, there is no sense in walking through the details related to each of the potential scenarios. It is simply best to wait until we have received guidance from MDE.

  • Parent Feedback. After the week of July 4, we will send out a survey (and potentially hold meetings) to get feedback on your experiences over the past two months. If the guidance from MDE indicates that part of our school opening will have a distance learning component, we want to know how we can make this experience better for students and their families.

Until then, may your summer be filled with rest and relaxation.

COVID-19 Travel Update from the Health Office
As we fully enter summer and states, including Minnesota, continue to open up, consider reviewing guidelines from CDC regarding travel within the US. Click here to read the guidelines.

Guidelines on Wearing Masks and Other Safety Measures
Whether you agree with wearing a mask or not there are places requiring their use. If a mask is going to be of any protection at all it needs to be worn correctly and properly cared for after wearing. Click here to read more.

Keep in mind that the other measures for preventing the spread of COVID-19 need to continue. Cloth face coverings do not replace the need to wash hands often with soap and water; don't touch your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth; stay home when you don't feel well and follow exclusion guidelines if you do become ill; and practice social distancing. MDH considers you to have been exposed (if the other person would become ill) if you have spent more than 15 minutes with the person even if you are 6 feet apart and wearing cloth face coverings.

Lions Summer Camps Update
Due to the uncertainty of the upcoming summer, we are canceling all in person summer camps offered by the SCPA Activities Department.

Individual coaches and advisors will be reaching out to team members in order to facilitate online instruction and information sharing during the summer months. All students are asked to be in touch with their Head Coach or Lead Advisor with questions about those summer offerings.

If circumstances change where we are able to do face to face instruction at some point this summer, coaches and advisors will reach out to their teams and share what that schedule will be.

If you have further questions, please contact Rich Dippel at richdippel@stcroixprep.org or 651-395-5904.
