Canines 4 Comfort Fundraiser
Thanks to everyone who supported our Canines 4 Comfort #KriegerCrew fundraiser! I'm thrilled to report that we raised $6,221.66!! All of the proceeds have already been given directly to Canines 4 Comfort so they can continue to place therapy dogs and psychiatric service dogs with schools and individuals in need. For those who purchased a walk with Krieger, I'm scheduling them in on the days Krieger is with us. I'll send home an invitation with each child. We have more than 40 walks (hooray!) so it will take some time to get them all scheduled--some will happen after we're back following spring break. T-shirts and stuffed dogs will be passed out as soon as the order is filled. Our five raffle winners are: Mila F., Mason M., Lucas M., Addie V., and Parker W. Each winner will get to spend some time with Krieger practicing his commands, playing fetch, petting him, reading to him, or brushing him. Thanks so much to everyone who participated in the fundraiser!
Marla's Brown Bag Lunch Returning for In-Person Students
The PTO is thrilled to share that we're reinstating our partnership with Marla's Brown Bag lunch service beginning the week of April 12th. Parents will be able to order lunch for students on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Ordering will be open the week prior via Marla's website. We're excited to be partnering with local restaurants as well! The menu, login information, and more details will be coming soon!
Arrival Procedures Shift *repeat*
New arrival rules include the following:
- No adults may park and get out of cars to help students along the curb from the Catherine intersection to the Chestnut intersection. If you need to help your child(ren) get out of the car, please park on Chestnut or Catherine and walk them across Greenbriar.
- We continue to encourage families to use the crosswalk at Greenbriar and Chestnut, where we have a crossing guard stationed, in lieu of crossing at Catherine.
- When entering the car line for drop off, please join the line at the end as it runs beginning just north of the Catherine intersection. Please stay in the line all the way through to Chestnut. Please DO NOT pull out and around other cars. We will have staff working to help children exit cars quickly. Pulling around the car line has caused several near accidents and is dangerous for our staff and children exiting the cars. It also makes the car line run more slowly as everyone tries to merge into traffic.
- Children may exit the cars as soon as they reach the area north of the parking lot driveway where the curb-side sidewalk begins. Staff will be available to help open doors and move things along. Please ensure that children have their masks on, and have their backpacks and winter gear ready to exit quickly.
5th Grade: Math Problem Solving Assessment *repeat*
As part of the comprehensive review process for sixth grade math placement, all of our fifth-graders will participate in a math problem solving assessment. The questions on the assessment will require students to construct answers and write about their mathematical thinking. This is different from the MAP test, which assesses math skills in a multiple-choice format. The CogAT test is different as well because it captures reasoning skills in a multiple-choice format. The problem-solving assessment will provide a snapshot of your child’s strategies and thinking. Together, the three assessments along with classroom performance will be used to determine course placement. Students will be given the math problem-solving assessment on March 3 during the school day. This assessment will be an hour in length, paper-pencil format.
