#PAHealthyYouthBusiness
with Clallam County Sheriff's Office
|
Reward and Reminder is a routine community-based prevention effort to reduce and prevent the retail sale of tobacco, vaping, and other products to youth. This year the Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition and Clallam County Sheriff's Office conducted randomized surveys of nicotine vape products in the City of Port Angeles.
"We use this strategy to help us assess and support retailer compliance, with laws like checking I.D.s to prevent sales to minors" shared Target Zero Manager Josh Ley with the Clallam County Sheriff's Office. "The strategy uses a 'young looking person', so we chose a 22-year-old male volunteer to attempt purchases of nicotine vape products. The volunteer is of legal age, so no law is broken if the retailer does not ask for I.D."
This year would like to thank these #PAHealthyYouthBusinesses, the Arco at 807 S. Lincoln St, Northwest Tobacco Emporium on 1st Street, and Mobil at 504 S. Lincoln! Thank you for being in compliance with the law and protecting the health of young people in our community.

Wellness Facilitator Training
|
SPORT Prevention Plus Wellness is an evidence-based health promotion program that highlights the positive benefits of an active lifestyle to reduce the use of alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, and e-cigarettes/vape use by high school students, in addition to improving overall physical health, nutrition, and sleep habits. The Coalition is offering the virtual SPORT PPW training program at no cost for interested parents, teachers and volunteers.
The program consists of an in-person health behavior screen, a one-on-one consultation, and a take-home fitness prescription targeting adolescent health-promoting and harm-reduction behaviors. For high school students, SPORT has been shown to reduce alcohol consumption and delay initiation, reduce cigarette and cannabis use frequency, and increase exercise habits.
Results from the 2021 Healthy Youth Survey, a statewide survey of young people focused on their health behaviors, suggest that youth would benefit from a non-parental, caring adult having an influence in their lives. To learn more visit https://preventionpluswellness.com.
