FEAST OF THE HOLY ROSARY

OCTOBER 7

"The Rosary, though clearly Marian in character,

is at heart a Christocentric prayer.

It has all the depth of the Gospel message in its entirety,

of which it can be said to be a compendium.

It is an echo of the prayer of Mary, her perennial Magnificat

for the work of the redemptive Incarnation

which began in her virginal womb.

With the Rosary, the Christian people sit a the school of Mary

and are led to contemplate the beauty of the face of Christ

and to experience the depths of his love.

Through the rosary the faithful receive abundant grace."

Saint Pope John Paul II

Did You Know...

You can pray all the prayers above as part of your rosary time,

or everything before the Litany,

or one set of mysteries,

or one decade

or even part of a decade?

Adapt it to your time and circumstances. Some with children pray one decade and others pray 5 mysteries, but with only one Hail Mary between the Our Father and Glory Be.

Most important is to pray – Mother Mary knows our desires and limitations.

All of Heaven awaits openings for us to receive greater graces for our benefit.

Whether it is 1 minute or 1 hour, you will benefit from any time spent communicating with God and all of those He gives us to help, including the saints and angels.

THIS HABIT KILLS EVANGELIZATION

We spend so much of our time consuming ideas -

how much do we retain and put into practice?

We are knowledge hoarders;

amassing mountains of information

- but unable to share one bit of it.

How do we change this?

GOSPEL READING REFLECTION

For October 2, 2022

The Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Year C - Lk 17:5-10

Living the Royal Priesthood of Christ as a Layperson

"The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”

The Lord replied,

“If you have faith the size of a mustard seed,

you would say to this mulberry tree,

‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you."

  • Faith is assent to Divine Revelation. Christ, who is the fullness of Divine Revelation, is saying that with an operative faith, that is, a faith we act on with the help of grace, we will accomplish things that seem amazing to us, even impossible.

  • Our work is to contribute to the goal of “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth.” This is part of the importance that God gives to each Christian.

  • Despite the importance of our work, we have no grounds for getting puffed up with pride for anything we accomplish in Christ. When we do whatever we ought, we are just doing our duty.

  • Even when we freely give whatever we have out of love (which is objectively the best we can do), we are still just doing our duty as followers of Christ. In other words, the duty of the follower of Christ is to love our neighbor with a sacrificial love.
  • The duty of the Christian plowman is to plow fields and to love his neighbor. The duty of the Christian shepherd is to shepherd sheep and to love his neighbor. They duty of a Christian student is to study and to love his neighbor. And so on.

  • The connection between the two parts of this gospel–increase our faith and serve Christ–is, if we want a stronger faith we should dedicate ourselves to doing God’s will.

BOOK

RECOMMENDATION

We need to be armed for battle!

At all times, and especially during these crazy times in this vale of tears,

we need to lay our foundation in Christ Jesus.

Spiritual reading helps us build and strengthen that foundation.

This week's recommendation is:

Champions of the Rosary:

The History and Heroes of a Spiritual Weapon

by Fr. Donald H. Calloway

Tells the powerful history of the Rosary and the champions of this devotion.

The Rosary is a spiritual sword

with the power to conquer sin, defeat evil,

and bring about peace.

Deepen your understanding and love for praying the Rosary through this book.

Father Calloway's profundity and scholarship is unquestionable.

Champions of the Rosary not only clearly presents the

rosary's history, but is also a clarion call for everyone

to enlist as a soldier in the army of the Queen of the Rosary.

Only then will we be able to conquer and banish the culture of death,

the modern attacks against the Church and her teachings,

and the diabolical agents who raise their weapons against Christ and his Cross.

Fr. Donald H. Calloway, MIC, a convert to Catholicism,

is a member of the

Congregation of Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception.

Before his conversion to Catholicism,

he was a high school dropout,

who was kicked out of another country,

institutionalized twice, and

thrown in jail multiple times.

After his radical conversion he earned a

B.A. in Philosophy and Theology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville,

M.Div. and S.T.B. degrees from the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC,

& an S.T.L. in Mariology from the International Marian Research Institute in Dayton, OH.

We pray you will be excited to embark on purposeful spiritual reading as a way to build a more prayer-filled, Christ centered life.
