Featuring
Wayne Handley
Acrobatic Airshow Performer / Instructor
Wednesday Oct 5th, 2022
No Host Bar: 5:30 p.m., Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m.
Wayne Handley (born March 26, 1939 in Carmel, California) is an American airshow performer, former naval aviator, agricultural pilot, Aerobatic Competency Evaluator (ACE), and coach for upcoming and current airshow stars. Handley and his wife Karen are former residents of the Salinas Valley of California, who currently reside in Groveland, California.
Handley's father wouldn't allow him to fly while living under his roof, but in 1957, while attending Hartnell College in Salinas, Handley got in touch with the campus flying club, and took his first lesson in an Aeronca 7AC Champion. Two years later, he had 70 hours in his logbook, left College and enlisted in the US Navy. He trained through propeller-driven aircraft up into the Grumman F9F Cougar and F-11 Tiger carrier-based fighters. In 1963, when faced with the choice of either transitioning into the F-4 Phantom or taking an aerial application job back at home, he chose to be with his family, and started flying agricultural operations in fixed wing aircraft and rotorcraft. Handley began flying aerobatics after taking ownership of a Pitts S-1C in the early 1980s, and entered his first International Aerobatic Club contest in 1983.
Dinner is catered and open to the public ($25/person), reservations are required prior to 6 p.m., Monday prior to dinner, either On-line HERE or call 805 296-1935.

The middle of September brought over 150 356 Porsches from all over California as they convened upon Paso Robles for a fun weekend, to include catered dinner for the drivers at Estrella Warbirds Museum. Frequently heard, "This is an awesome destination for our car club!"

BMW Beemer Me Up, Scotty!

Not to allow all the Porsches to steal the show, an entire group of BMW owners parked their wonderful display vehicles along the flight line while the owners and friends toured the museum and Woodland Auto Display.

A-3 Whale Cockpit Headed for Restoration by Aviation Youth Group
|
|
The team that showed up at 8 AM or before are as follows:
Brooke Baldwin, Alex Gomez, Carson Spicer, Neil Canaday, Brad Eaton, Robbie Horrell, Scott Stelzle, Stephen Gomez
It took all of us to clear out our fabric hangar to make room for maneuvering, pull out the Stinson, then strap the Whale and bring all its pieces over and get into a good spot to be able to work all the way around it. Then we had to move all the rest of the stuff back in. Brad sprayed for spiders and any bugs and we've already begun sanding. We plan to clean it up and prep it for paint, recover the seats along with new foam, clean up the gauges, place plexiglass in areas that need it and we hope to have the help of Restoration when it comes to painting. Exciting times!

Our UH-19 Choctaw helicopter is headed to the Al Shade Restoration Hanger for a much needed fresh exterior paint job. Years in the desert sun take their toll on these aircraft and they frequently need freshening. up. Can't wait to see the incredible job the restoration crew will do. We are always looking for help, experienced or willing to learn!

Highlights From the Woodland Auto Display
|
|
The new WAD addition is moving along. Hopefully, we'll have it wrapped up by the end of October at which time, we will begin adding internal displays.
Richard Woodland is working on a new promotion for out of town events to hopefully, entice more out of towners' to visit Paso Robles and the EWM/WAD facilities. The first will be Thanksgiving weekend for the Annual Midget Auto Racing Grand Prix which is held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds this year. The Thanksgiving Midget Grand Prix, or Turkey Night Grand Prix as it was fondly called, was a one night race held on Thanksgiving evening until recently, has now become a two night event held on Thanksgiving weekend.
Next to the Indianapolis 500, this is the longest continuously run auto race in the country. The first was held in 1934 and the list of winners is truly a who's who of American racecar drivers such as Indianapolis 500 winners Bill Vukovich Sr., AJ Foyt and Parnelli Jones as well as NASCAR champions Tony Stewart and Kyle Larson.
In addition to the promotion, the Woodland Auto Display 8w Midget will be among the 80 +/- expected entries, and, by coincidence, Richard Woodland will be serving as the Grand Marshal for the entire event.
