A note from Chapter President, Susan Stein Kregar, CAE, CNAP, Desert Lotus Group
Hello NAWIC Members and Friends,
It sure has been a busy summer! There are projects happening everywhere!
Thank you to everyone who attended our July and August chapter meetings! Katharine Kent's informative and interactive solar presentation in July was terrific and the presentation from Lance Jones at our August meeting intrigued us with the world of VR employee training. In July, we also inducted three new members: Amanda Frank, DPR Construction; Betsy Edwards, Allegra Printing and Jennie Ulhmann, United Real Estate Specialists.
I just returned from Minneapolis for our Annual Conference. This was the first one I had attended, and, WOW, it was fantastic! There were nearly 400 members from around the country and some inspiring speakers. I am eager to share what I learned at our upcoming chapter meeting on September 14th. If you haven't checked it out, download the newly released NAWIC app. We used it throughout the conference. It will be a tool all of us can use to easily stay on top of all that NAWIC has to offer.
Speaking of our September 14th chapter meeting, our 2022-23 board of directors will be installed. This will be a wonderful, celebratory meeting. Please be sure to join us! The meeting details are below.
Our chapter has many activities scheduled between now and the end of the year. Mark your calendar and join us at the following events:
September 14 -- Chapter Meeting & New Board Installation
October 12 -- Chapter Meeting
November 2 - 3 -Construction Career Days
December 3 -- NAWIC Night at the Gaslight
The Educational Enrichment Foundation (EEF) is still in need of school supplies and personal hygiene products. If you did not get a chance to deliver your donation to the August chapter meeting or bowling tournament, bring them to the September 14th chapter meeting and they will be delivered on your behalf. Please see below for details.
Finally, kudos to Tracy Miller, Jamie Thrush and Yvette Pederson for coordinating another first-rate annual bowling event. Thank you to all of or sponsors, prize donors, volunteers, and players. We are so fortunate that our beloved Shirley Dail was able to join us, which made the day even more special.
So, that's it for now. Until we meet again, stay hydrated and cool!
Cheers,
Susan Stein Kregar
President 2021-2022

Our beloved chapter founder, Shirley Dail, passed away the morning of Tuesday August 23, 2022.
Shirley was the owner of Shirley's Plan Service for 35 years and was an integral part of the Tucson construction industry. Shirley was passionate about promoting opportunities for women in construction and co-founded the Tucson NAWIC chapter in 1966. We are so fortunate that she was able to join us at the bowling tournament that bears her name on August 13th.
If you would like to attend services for Shirley they are as follows:
- The viewing will be Friday, 9/23/22, from 4:00pm-7:00pm @ Bring's Funeral Home located at 6910 E. Broadway Blvd. #2803
- Her funeral is Saturday, 9/24/22 at 10:00am at Southlawn Cemetary (limited seating & parking-seating will be reserved for family) located at 5401 S. Park Ave, 85706
- A Celebration of Life on 9/24/22 from 12:00pm-3:30pm (following the funeral) at Tanque Verde Guest Ranch located at 14301 E. Speedway Blvd, 85748
In lieu of flowers, Shirley's wishes were that donations are made to support the NAWIC Shirley Dail Endowment Fund or Aviva Children's Services, as she was passionate about education and children.
To make a donation to the endowment, please make a check payable to:
NAWIC
and note in the memo:

A portion of the proceeds from this bowling event benefit the NAWIC Shirley Dail Endowment which provides scholarships to female students in construction related majors. Our August Program
Lance Jones with Transfr was the speaker at our August 10th meeting and is an award-winning sales producer with experience in highly complex markets including Virtual Reality technology, government, real estate, and retail. He negotiates with key decision makers, from C-level executives and business leaders to IT subject matter experts and government officials. His accomplished career spans an MBA, entrepreneurship, and professional and community leadership.
Transfr's mission is to make learning more intuitive by helping individuals develop the skills they need for career success. They produce job-training simulations in virtual reality (VR) designed by each industry that teaches novices in the same manner that experts master their crafts - through trial and error. Data-driven simulations work like virtual coaches, adapting to every person’s pace and skills while responding to their mistakes. Their immersive Experience Training method helps trainees build confidence in their knowledge, skills and abilities. See one of our own NAWIC member's, Kimberly Dycus, learning to change the oil on a car using this VR training!
