As of 11 a.m. on Monday, June 29, Calhoun County has a cumulative total of 472 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to Calhoun County Public Health Department (CCPHD), with a total of 32 deaths attributed to the virus. This information is updated once daily, Monday through Friday, at  www.calhouncountymi.gov .

Learning From Situations in Other Counties
The Ingham County Health Department is advising individuals who visited Harper's Restaurant and Brew Pub in East Lansing between June 12-20 to self-quarantine, because a total 85 cases are attributed to an outbreak at the establishment during that time. The Ingham County Health Department reports that the majority of these cases are individuals between the ages of 18 and 23. At the time of a press release on June 24 , most individuals with positive results had mild symptoms and four were asymptomatic. At the time, one was an incident of secondary exposure, and that number has since risen according to news reports.

"We share this information about Harper's Restaurant to illustrate how pervasive this virus is, that young people are not immune, and as a reminder to continue being vigilant against the virus, especially as our state reopens," said Eric Pessell, Calhoun County Health Officer. "Community spread is happening statewide, so it's crucial that individuals are smart about wearing face coverings, keeping six feet of distance from others, and washing hands for 20 seconds."

When Calhoun County Public Health Department learns of a positive COVID-19 case, contact tracing is performed to better understand where the individual might have contracted the virus, as well as identifying other locations or individuals that should be cautious for the presence of the virus. If Calhoun County experiences a major outbreak at one facility, such as happened at Harper's Restaurant, that information will be sent through the Joint Information Center. However, contact tracing typically happens directly between the Public Health Department staff and the individuals concerned.
