• On April 1, AAJA President Michelle Lee joined leaders from the National Association of Black Journalists, National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Native American Journalists Association, NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists, the South Asian Journalists Association, and Journalism & Women Symposium in this webinar on COVID-19: Taking Care of Journalists and Journalism hosted by the Power Shift Project at the Freedom Forum Institute.

• #AAJA20 convention may look and feel different this year, and as a result, early bird registration has been extended to May 31.

• Congrats to AAJA Philadelphia, for receiving a grant from the Lenfest Institute for supporting journalists of color in Philadelphia, along with NAHJ Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists.

• Join the IWGroup’s #WashTheHate Campaign to combat the rising tide of coronavirus-related discrimination and violence against individuals of Asian descent. To participate, make a video of yourself washing your hands and post your story to social media with #AAJAFamily and #WashTheHate.

• Coronavirus Resources Page: We will continue to update the Coronavirus Resources Page on our website. Feel free to share with us any resources you come across.

• Virtual Happy Hours +: Stay tuned to local chapters and affinity groups for more region- or expertise-specific resources, as well as regularly scheduled virtual networking and community-building events. (For example, check out this list of Philly-local experts of color for COVID-19 reporting, AAJA San Francisco’s Bay Area resource list, or Yung AAJA’s Money Management for Journalists webinar recording and report out.)

• Hang Out by the Slack Water Cooler: We’ve created four new Slack channels to encourage social connection and peer support: #parenting, #exercise, #food, and #in-the-news. Folks in the #exercise channel are currently seeking a good running playlist. (If you’re not on Slack yet, join here.)

• Respecting the Inbox: As you may have noticed, we’ve increased our communication with you because our mission is to serve you by supporting the advancement and leadership of our members in this industry. And we want to make sure we’re on the same page. Tell us how it’s working out for you.

• Apply for 2020 AAJA / Getty Images Inclusion Scholarship by April 27, a $10,000 scholarship to a student focused on photojournalism.

• Apply for the 2020 Facebook Journalism Project Scholarship by May 30. AAJA will award five scholarships worth $10,000 each for students to use toward their college tuition.
