Haverford Business Developments - October 2022

Matching Facade Grant Program - Phase 2 is closing!

Building on the efforts from Phase 1, Discover Haverford and Haverford Township are happy to announce the opening of the Haverford Township Façade Improvement Matching Grant Program – Phase 2 which will continue to provide matching grants to businesses, nonprofits or commercial property owners for the purpose of promoting economic recovery and community revitalization through aesthetically improved business properties, visible from our public streets. Phase 2 will have expanded awards with the Township matching an applicant’s investment in qualified improvements, dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000. Funds for this service are provided to the Township by the federal government through the American Rescue Plan Act. The program administrator on behalf of the Township of Haverford is the non-for-profit agency, Discover Haverford (HPED). Applicants who were previously awarded grants under Phase 1 may reapply under Phase 2 as long as their total award between the two phases does not exceed $25,000.

Deadline for Phase 2 is October 15th!

Discover Haverford Welcomes Hendren House

Discover Haverford welcomes Hendren House which opened a few weeks ago at 2112 Darby Road! Owner Caroline Finnegan grew up in Roxborough but attended Merion Mercy Academy and worked at the St. Jude Shop on Brookline Boulevard during high school. She was a communications major at Manhattan College but has always been involved with creative work and considered a career in fashion.

“My grandfather’s creativity was very inspirational to me. He was a civil engineer but was also a wood carver and built his own home in Drexel Hill,” explains Caroline.

Plastic Bag Ordinance

In April 2022, the Board of Commissioners passed an ordinance to reduce the use of single-use plastics throughout our community.

The ordinance will go into effect on January 2, 2023 – so start planning now to be part of the solution and bring your own bags when shopping local.

Full information about the transition away from single-use plastics and answers to frequently asked questions can be found on the Haverford Township website @ https://havtwp.org/Plastic_Free.html
