The goal of Safe Space at CSU is to create a safe, inclusive environment for our LGBTQ+ community, and to grow a culture of allyship and support. Cleveland State University's Safe Space Program strives to improve visibility and support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ+) students.

Learning about LGBTQ+ identities and terminology, and examining prejudice, assumptions, and privilege, is essential if you want to take steps to become an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. Show your support by participating in a Safe Space training!

The Unprotected: Sexual Violence and the Experiences of African-American Women

Over 18% of African American women will be sexually assaulted in her lifetime. In order to address the issue of sexual violence against Black women, it is imperative that we address the unique barriers faced by African-American women on a political, economic, and cultural level. Part of the PRISUM Speaker Series.

It’s been a challenging year in many different ways. The VMSC invites you to attend “Resilience. Surviving Finals, Graduation, and Beyond” with Duncan Kirkwood. Duncan is a Best-Selling Author, Veteran, Global Resilience Advocate, and Speaker.

During his military service, he learned a great deal about follow-through, perseverance, and how to develop a never quit attitude. He uses that experience, and his passion for helping others, to realize their own power and use it to shape their reality. He adapted his program to fit the student lifestyle and has agreed to leave time to answer questions at the end.

Introduction to the Information Studies Profession & Development of Marketable Skills

The student that is selected for this position will receive a broad introduction to the information studies profession—its purpose, value, and expertise. They will be paired with a mentor to gain valuable knowledge in the field and develop marketable skills that are extendable to a variety of career disciplines. The program provides experiential learning, valuable training, and support within a professional and structured work environment, while creating a networking opportunity for current and former program participants. Applicants do not have to be considering a career in librarianship.
