What a year it has been at Marin Catholic!
May 28th marked the official end of the 2019-20 academic school year and what a year it's been! Along with the rest of the world, Marin Catholic adapted to the necessary changes to keep our community and families safe and to help our students finish strong! Our 758 students, along with our faculty and staff logged an impressive 4300+ class meetings on zoom covering over 250 classes, and over 85 “Sheltered-In Sessions”. In addition to these sessions, our students participated in weekly grade-level prayer sessions, competed in weekly online “scavenger” hunts, and wore crazy hats on the last day of Carri Polizzotti’s Chemistry class.

Supporting MC Gala Businesses
Given the restrictions on large social gatherings and the impact that COVID-19 has had on the many local restaurants, wineries, and businesses who donate to and support our annual Gala event in the fall, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our annual dining and food event.
As a community, we can all still enjoy and support the fine food and beverages from these local businesses, many who are family-owned, alumni businesses that have donated to our annual event for many years.
to view the list of these restaurants, wineries, and businesses with information such as curbside pick up, patio dining, days/hours of operation, and other important details. If you or members of your extended family patronize these amazing businesses, please let them know we are all part of the MC family!

Patrick had previously received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame in May 2016 in Electrical Engineering. St. Anselm Hall Construction Update
A "silver lining" from the COVID 19 pandemic has been an unimpeded construction site for
the new St. Anselm Hall to open this fall
. This unexpected tailwind has the new building taking shape and has allowed unanticipated setbacks to not impact the open date in October.
One of the challenges was the discovery of a crack in one of the trusses in the theater roof which required a fascinating physics project to solve. As you can see in the picture to the left, all trusses needed to be tested by an outside company for the safety of the structure. The great news: The truss is repaired and the theater roof is sound. The bad news: We only wish our Physics students could have been on campus to see this wild experiment in person.
Some parts of the project are complete, including the building's new wrap-around walkway to the chapel from both sides of the building. A special thank you to
Ghilotti Bros., Inc
. and to
Mike '80
,
Mario '12
,
Gino '15
,
Angelina '16
and
Giovanni '20
and the entire Ghilotti Family for this incredible gift to the project.

As you may have heard, we are going to host a special Class of 2020 reception in the new building over Christmas break when they return from their first semester in college. In addition, the Class of 2020 will always be a special part of this project. Through this summer, while socially distancing, students have been arriving in groups of 12 to autograph and slap their handprint on the 2" x 4"s inside the building before the sheetrock goes up so they will always be in the bones of this special project. Special thanks to
Alten Construction
employees and Marin Catholic alums
Luke O'Neill '06
and
Billy Alten '15
for their help and openness (and excitement) in allowing this part of the project to occur.

Wildcats in the Community
Our Wildcats did not let the shelter-in-place detract from safely serving the greater community in this time of need. Here are some ways that our community demonstrated the Corporal Works of Mercy, which are the teachings of Jesus that give us a model of how we should treat all others as if they were Christ in disguise. This is the cornerstone of our Christian values and we are proud of our Wildcats (safely!) making a difference!
Bagged Lunches Project
24 MC families participated in a bag lunch program and safely prepared and packaged over 175 lunches for the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Marin and Homeward Bound of Marin. Bagged lunches were prepared safely at home, many with homemade treats, and delivered to over 175 families in need. Both organizations greatly appreciated support in serving families. Check out the websites of
Homeward Bound of Marin
and
St. Vincent de Paul Society Marin
if you are interested in supporting this ongoing need.
Hamilton Community Drive
Thea Falvey '22
organized a food drive to benefit low-income families in the Hamilton Community. Working with the Principal of Hamilton School in Novato, the MC community, under Thea's leadership, donated six car-loads of food and supplies and donated over $3,000 in gift cards for those in need in the Hamilton Community.
We are proud of the many students and families who rose to the challenge and found ways to serve others while practicing safe sheltering.

An Update for our Wildcat Athletic Department
The Marin Catholic Athletics Department is busy preparing for fall sports. While there are still many unknowns about the ability to play and gather in the stands, our team is working on a variety of options to make sure that our athletes are able to safely condition and compete. This summer, football, men’s and women’s basketball and cross country are seeing groups of 12 kids, or “cohorts” coming together to condition. Each cohort is led by a coach and is being safely monitored to follow strict health protocols. Other teams, such as softball, women's basketball, women's lacrosse and women's volleyball have been meeting via Zoom for team bonding and conditioning. As more information becomes available and decisions are made, information will be shared with the greater MC community.

Willie the Wildcat and gal-pal Wilma delivered varsity pins to senior athletes (thank you Lynn Maloney '98 and Adam Callan '01 for taking one for the team!)
and had many more engaging opportunities through our Zoom learning.

All our graduating spring athletes were acknowledged by their coaches in
a special video presentation
. Congratulations to all our college-bound athletes and remember, once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!
