“I wanted to quit. In my 31 years of teaching, I had never experienced so much disobedience and trauma before in my career,” said Trudy Humphreys, a teacher at the Henry J. Kaiser Elementary School in Ravenswood, West Virginia. “After practicing Inner Explorer with the kids for a year, I saw a transformation in my classroom. Students no longer had outbursts in class, I didn’t have to send any of the kids to detention, and their grades significantly improved. I decided not to quit.” Through the generous support of LG Electronics, Inner Explorer brought a daily mindfulness practice to every student and educator in this rural school community that was disproportionately affected by the national opioid crisis. After one year the results were stunning, with a 77% drop in discipline problems and significant improvements in reading and math levels well beyond anyone’s expectations.
