CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES - Week of April 12
Construction will occur Monday through Friday during daytime (6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and nighttime (9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) hours, except as noted. All construction is dynamic and the schedule is subject to change. Please check the Google Map for the most updated closure and detour information.
Eighteen bridges throughout the corridor will either be replaced, widened, or improved to accommodate the widening of the freeway. Work on the bridges may be loud and you may feel vibration at times during both daytime and nighttime hours.

Below is an overview of the current bridge work:

  • Monte Vista Avenue: Crews continue to relocate underground utilities at Monte Vista Avenue and are preparing to build a new wider section of the EB side of the freeway. Work on Monte Vista Avenue began in spring 2020 and will last for approximately three years. Continuing daytime and nighttime activities include relocating utilities, excavating and removing the bottom portion of the bridge supports, and building the new bridge.

  • Central Avenue: In November 2020, a portion of the EB I-10 shoulder over Central Avenue was removed and crews are working to prepare the existing bridge to be widened. Work began in fall 2020 and will last for approximately 18 months. Daytime and nighttime activity includes drainage relocation and installation.

  • Benson Avenue: A portion of the EB I-10 shoulder over Benson Avenue was removed in early-December 2020. Bridge widening work will continue for approximately two years. Crews will be removing the lower portions of the support structure, excavating, placing rebar, and pouring concrete during daytime and nighttime hours.

  • Mountain Avenue: In November 2020, crews removed a portion of the EB I-10 shoulder over Mountain Avenue. Work began in fall 2020 and will last for approximately 18 months. Nighttime activity includes building the median column.

  • Euclid Avenue: Crews demolished the east side of the bridge and are working on rebuilding the NB lanes. Work on Euclid Avenue began in mid-May 2020 and will last for approximately 18 months. Daytime and nighttime activity includes building the bridge supports and deck. Tentatively rescheduled for Friday, April 16 from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (Saturday morning), concrete will be poured to create the surface of the east side of the bridge. Detour routes will be posted and closures include:
  • Euclid Avenue over I-10 will be closed to through traffic except for resident access.
  • EB and WB I-10 at Euclid Avenue. Motorists on EB and WB I-10 will be routed off and on the freeway using the Euclid Avenue off- and on-ramps.

  • Sultana Avenue: Crews continue to build the new Sultana Avenue bridge over I-10. The new bridge is anticipated to open in spring 2021. Daytime and nighttime activity includes stretching rebar and grouting the surface of the bridge.

  • Campus Avenue: Campus Avenue over I-10 will be closed to prepare for demolition in spring 2021. Once the original bridge is demolished, crews will rebuild the bridge into a new wider configuration. To prepare for this work, utility relocation is occurring between Richland Street and 6th Street.

  • 6th Street: In spring 2021, 6th Street over I-10 will be closed to allow crews to prepare for demolition. Once the original bridge is demolished, crews will rebuild the bridge into a new wider configuration. To prepare for this work, utility relocation is occurring between Campus Avenue and Holmes Court.

  • Grove Avenue: A portion of the EB and WB I-10 shoulder over Grove Avenue was removed in December 2020. Work is expected to be complete in fall 2021. Crews will continue to prepare the existing bridge for widening. Daytime and nighttime activities include excavating and removing the bottom portion of the bridge supports. Grove Avenue under I-10 will be intermittently closed to through traffic and detour routes will be posted.

  • 4th Street: Crews continue to relocate underground utilities at 4th Street and are preparing to build a new wider section of the EB side of the freeway. Work on 4th Street began in spring 2020 and will last for approximately two years. 4th Street between El Dorado Avenue and Vineyard Avenue is reduced to one lane during daytime hours. 4th Street under I-10 will be intermittently closed during nighttime hours. Detour routes will be posted. Daytime and nighttime activities include excavation of the bridge supports and utility relocation.

  • Vineyard Avenue: The east side of Vineyard Avenue over I-10 was partially demolished in early-March. Construction will last approximately 18 months. Vineyard Avenue over I-10 may have reduced lanes during daytime hours and may be intermittently closed during nighttime hours. Daytime and nighttime activities include installing temporary support structures, drainage, and earthwork.

Phase 1 of SB Express Lanes is located in the southwestern portion of San Bernardino County east of Los Angeles County. The project will provide choices on the I-10 freeway between the Los Angeles/San Bernardino County line and I-15. The project includes two express lanes in each direction to offer trip reliability and ease congestion. In addition, lanes to assist drivers getting on and off the freeway (auxiliary lanes) will be constructed in selected locations. West of Haven Avenue, a single new lane will be constructed and combined with the existing HOV lane to provide two express lanes in each direction. The HOV lane will still be available to motorists, but will increase from 2+ to 3+. East of Haven Avenue, two express lanes will be constructed.
