In Brief

In this edition of the Monday Morning Messenger, the TPGA shares an update on when you start claiming the recently extended alternative fuel tax credit.

In our second story of the morning, TPGA reminds you of a nationwide roadside enforcement event happening this week.

Additionally, TPGA wanted to alert members to the fact that PERC's national Propane Construction Incentive Program (PCIP) for builders and remodelers is running low. Read the story third story of the morning for more details on the program and how you can help.

Lastly, we are nearly entering the last quarter of the Texas Saves with Propane Appliance Rebate Program from the Propane Council of Texas (ProCOT). Are you taking advantage of this program that helps your propane customers upgrade their heating system before the upcoming cold spell? Rebate funds are first come, first serve. Don’t miss out on funds while they last.

When Can Start Claiming the

Alternative Fuel Tax Credits?

As anticipated, President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act last week, which extended the alternative fuel tax credit retroactively for 2022 as well as extending through 2024.

The question on everyone's mind right now is how to claim the credit for the first two quarters of 2022.

Last week, TPGA reached out to our friends in the IRS Chief Counsel's Office for guidance and what they said is that federal law requires that the IRS provide tax guidance within 30 days after the enactment of a new tax law.

TPGA will follow up with members once the tax credit claiming guidance is released from the IRS.

Don't Forget: Heightened Enforcement This Week

Brake Safety Week

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has designated August 21-27, 2022, as Brake Safety Week. Brake Safety Week is an annual commercial motor vehicle brake-safety inspection, roadside enforcement, and education initiative conducted by law enforcement jurisdictions in the U.S. and across North America, including Mexico. During Brake Safety Week, inspectors will conduct their usual North American Standard Level I and V roadside inspections and capture and report brake-related data to CVSA.

PERC Construction Incentive Funds Running Low

PERC’s national Propane Construction Incentive Program (PCIP) for licensed builders and remodelers is getting low on available funds.

The program offers construction professionals up to $1,500 for each new home or remodels completed in 2022, just for installing propane appliances. There is no limit to the number of homes you can submit.

If your building professional customers have projects that qualify, encourage them to visit the Propane Construction Incentive Program page to log in to their existing account or to create a new account to apply as soon as possible. If they have pending applications in the online portal, help them verify that all supporting documentation and requirements have been met and encourage them to submit them for review.

Applicants who have entered projects that will not be completed in the calendar year 2022 should contact PERC via the portal to remove the applications to free up incentive dollars for 2022 projects.

Visit the Propane Construction Incentive Program page to learn more, or contact your builders and remodelers now and remind them to complete their applications.
