Every few days throughout the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic currently gripping our nation and world, our Sisters will share anecdotes and spiritual tidings with our families, friends, alumnae and benefactors. We hope these messages will help to nurture a sense of solace in these trying times.
Jesus & Easter Live in Our Hearts
Sister Pacifika Jusková , one of our European sisters, created this depiction of Jesus' empty tomb outside our headquarters in Rome, Italy. "With a little imagination we can meet at the empty tomb, share a heartfelt embrace and sing our alleluia ... even if off key," says Sister Nancy Celaschi, who serves there alongside Sister Pacifika. "No one can keep Easter out of our hearts. Alleluia!"
Inspirational Words from Our Sisters
"The Scripture verse that has always been my strength and has helped me through many difficult situations is from Isiah 49:15-16: 'I will never forget you. I have you carved in the palms of my hands.' I truly believe, especially at this time of the coronavirus pandemic, that we are all held in God's hands, and I know in my heart that there is no better place to be, and that God will help us through this trying time, just as he has always helped me through mine."
- Sister Karen Buco
A Little Humor
Sisters Jo Goolish and Yolanda Escamilla in San Antonio, Texas, were delighted to receive a most precious Easter gift this weekend, dropped off on their porch by an alum of the former St. Francis Academy there.
Works of Mercy While Working from Home
We can use this time of isolation productively to perform some works of mercy that do not require us to leave our home. Today's suggestion: Look through your address book and send a card or note to someone who may be lonely.
Beatitudes for the Pandemic
By Sister Barbara Ann Webster
Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, their hope shall see fulfillment.
Blessed are the first responders, for God will respond to them.
Blessed are those who look out for their neighbor, they shall know joy.
Blessed are the sick. God is always with them.
Blessed are the nurses who care for the sick, they too will be comforted.
Blessed are the doctors, for they are in the hands of the Divine Physician.
Blessed are those who council the lonely, for they are inspired by God.
Blessed are those who practice social distance; God is forever at their side.
