Organizers NW is Back in Business!

As the Portland Metro area slowly starts to reopen, our team here at Organizers Northwest is also looking to the next phase in our reopening. In addition to our continued offering of
virtual organizing services, we are beginning to open our calendar to in-person organizing sessions.
Like everyone, we can't wait to return to the work we love.
To do our part to keep our clients and ourselves safe, we have adopted the following
protocols:
- Our team is required to ask general health questions prior to each appointment
- Confirmation one day prior to on-site appointments
- Waived cancellation fees
- Masks will be worn by the organizer and required of the client
- Washing hands and hand sanitizer available
- 6 feet distance kept at all times

Last month's roundup of June virtual events was so well received, we decided to keep it up. These virtual events for businesses and families help us feel more connected as we continue to limit large gatherings.

Tips for Organizing Your Garage + a Shiny Father's Day Special!
Decide on your goals before you begin. What does your ideal garage look like? Can you park the car in there? Do you need more space for your tools? Are the garbage and recycle bins in a convenient location? By planning ahead, you can anticipate how much clutter needs to be eliminated in order to be successful.
Be ruthless. As you make decisions about what to keep, remember that a functional garage can make your life so much better. If it's been in the garage for eons, chances are you won't miss it when it's gone.
Plan zones. As you are deciding where things deserve to live, organize the garage into zones with like items grouped together. By doing this, you create clear guidelines for others and make it much easier to find what you need. Some zone ideas are: kids toys, tools, sports, winter, summer, "Costco" items and garden supplies. Consider how you will place zones based on their proximity to where those items are most likely to be used.
Buy the right product. We always advise people to wait to purchase bins and other organizing products until after they have done the work. We recommend clear bins so that you can easily see the contents. Those with lids are better than those with flaps, so that they close completely and keep condensation out. We recommend storing bins vertically, but never stacked without a shelf separating each bin. If you don't have one already, invest in solid shelving to house bins and gear.
Avoid permanent labels.
Once you are ready to label your storage bins, remember that your garage, like your life, will go through changes and reinventions over time. Kids grow out of their toys, hobbies evolve and memorabilia accumulates. Resist the urge to write directly on storage bins, or to label them in any permanent or time-consuming way. We like Post-it notes on the inside of the bin fixed with tape, or a label-maker.

Open Donation Sites in the Portland Metro Area
After months of sheltering in place, many of us have piles of donations sitting in the garage! Happily, donation sites are beginning to open up, many on a limited capacity. This information can change rapidly, so please verify that the location you want to use is taking donations before you visit their drop-off site.
