Last Friday's Torah Shabbat
During last Friday evenings' Shabbat, Valerie Rosenson did an amazing job of chanting Torah and members of our 4th grade class chanted the blessings. The service was extremely well attended and was a wonderful way to welcome Shabbat. Mazal Tov to Valerie and to our 4th graders.

Virtual Purim Celebration and Wine Tasting

Toasts for Queen Esther!
Join us for a virtual Purim celebration and wine tasting on Friday, Feb 26! After an abbreviated Shabbat service, we will engage in a highly participatory reading of the Megillah including some trivia questions to test your knowledge and reflexes after a few tastes of wine. The invitation is open to current, past and future TBC members – ALL ARE WELCOME (so invite some friends!)
With support from two local merchants, we have chosen a few wines for our tasting. Both our merchants are offering discounts. A bit of info on the wines and directions on ordering are available when you register for the event. Here is the link. |

Thank You
Despite Covid and cold temperatures, TBC enthusiastically celebrated Purim on the well plowed parking lot. Many thanks to Cantor Harriet, teachers Rayna, Dana, and Barbara, teenagers Ariel, Rosie, and Sydney, our multi-talented 7th grade and Steve West-Rosenthal for ensuring that the parking lot was snow free and safe. Parents and students joined in the varied activities at “stations” run by 7th graders, used groggers to boo Haman during the Purim Spiel, and sang along with the Cantor. Wilton Food Pantry will benefit greatly from the generous donations brought by TBC families to help the needy. Thank you to Sisterhood for the Shaloch Manot bags of goodies. Meanwhile, Morah Ellie ran a successful Zoom Purim program for those at home. Marilyn

While giving Tzedakah, or money to the poor is a Mitzvah all year round, there is a special Mitzvah to do so on Purim. This unique mitzvah is called Matanot L’Evyonim and is an obligation for all to fulfill. This year we are asking you to donate your Matanot L’evyonim charity locally, and one way is through Schoke JFS. While many of these gifts will be sent to worthy causes around the world, we have needs right her in own back yard.
During the past 12 months, in addition to all the things below, we distributed close to $20,000 in emergency assistance to people in need. As always, we will distribute cash assistance from your support on Purim day so that the mitzvah will be fulfilled and people in our very own communities in need will be helped. We have needs right here in our backyard, and never before have those needs been greater!
During the pandemic:
- Our staff came to the office each day from the beginning of the pandemic.

40 families received food each day, three times the usually daily number to obtain food from our Freedberg Kosher Food Pantry
-
This represented an increase of more than 500% in people seeking food from the Freedberg Kosher Food pantry
- 70,000 meals were distributed to over 750 clients.
-
An average of 30 Holocaust survivors traveled to virtual events to avoid isolation and loneliness
-
18 children received scholarships to attend virtual and in person camps through the Zinbarg Camp Scholarship Fund
-
20 Seniors with memory impairments, attended weekly brain fitness
-
40 people received weekly therapy sessions via zoom to help deal with the anxiety brought about by the pandemic, as well as other interpersonal issues.

50 bags of groceries were distribute every week to dozens of elderly people who were unable to leave their homes; in addition, hundreds of meals were also delivered to people through our Hirsch Kosher Home Delivered meal program.
And this is just part of what SJFS has been called upon to do during these difficult times.

TBC Art Sale
Rescheduled for May 2021
We are currently planning to hold our long-postponed TBC Art Sale in May. The sale will be virtual and we will be posting an online catalog of all of the works of art, as well as a video. Many of our talented congregants have already donated work; and local artists are contributing as well.

TBC Book Group

"A touching coming-of-age story" ( Publishers Weekly) in the tradition of Anita Diamant's The Red Tent, about a young woman, her family, their community and the customs that bind them, from "a storyteller of uncommon energy and poise" (Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times). - The children of Israel are commanded to bring pure olive oil for the ner tamid "a constantly burning light," above the sanctuary. (27:20-21)
- Aaron and his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar, are chosen to serve as priests. (28:1)
- God instructs Moses to make special clothes for the priests. (28:2-43)
- Aaron and his sons are ordained in a seven-day ceremony (29:1-29:46)

Learn to Read Hebrew
URJ Program Begins March 14, 2021
Get started with the aleph-bet and learn Hebrew along with your children or grandchildren? Familiarity with Hebrew can be a key to feeling at home in the Jewish community. Learn the shapes and sounds of the Hebrew alphabet, with a warm and supportive educator to guide you and a group of classmates for practicing together. Recognize and understand common Hebrew words and phrases that are often heard in Reform congregations and in Jewish prayer. Perfect for Intro to Judaism alumni and other adults, this course assumes no prior Hebrew experience. Ten one-hour sessions, $180.

The URJ offers Jewish campers a wealth of options to choose from including close by regional camps like Harlam, Eisner and Crane Lake, along with their 6 Points specialty camps: 6 Points Sports Academy in North Carolina, 6 Points Sci-Tech near Boston, MA, and 6 Points Creative Arts just outside of Philadelphia, PA.
