Partnership offers private DNA storage, reporting for livestock

Data generated by DNA material and phenotypic evaluation has historically been controlled, evaluated and housed by third parties – not the producer who actually collected and owns this material. Additionally, information generated by investment in genomics has typically not been user friendly for cattle producers. All that’s about to change.

ADSA® asks, “Did you Know” of the wide range of Networking Opportunities available to members?

As a professional in the dairy industry it is more important than ever to network with both your domestic and international peers. The world-wide pandemic of the past year has changes ways in which we can do this, but has made it even more important. ADSA has long provided both “Face to Face” and “Electronic” opportunities to do this that were expanded during the past year.. The 2021 ASDA Annual Meeting, that will be a hybrid meeting, will offer both formal on-line and in person planned events and informal hallway, chat room and after hours opportunities to meet with scientists, government officials and industry leaders from North America and more than 50 countries around the world. The exhibit area and poster sessions are other great places to meet and make connections. Here is some data from 2020.

2020 Virtual ADSA Annual Meeting by the numbers…
  • 99.7% of survey respondents that attended the ADSA 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting said they would recommend the ADSA Annual Meeting to a colleague
  • 91.6% of survey respondents that attended the ADSA 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting said that they left the conference with at least one new idea that they intend to use in their work
  • 59 countries represented were represented at the meeting
  •  2,347 total attendees
  • More than 1,000 professional attendees
  • More than 1,300 student attendees

While the Annual Meeting is the largest ADSA event, other opportunities abound. The Discover Conferences that are also held in a hybrid mode provide great opportunities to network with others who have a strong interest in the same areas you do.  ADSA also has a booth at World Dairy Expo. Volunteer to help with the booth at the 2021 Expo. It is a great opportunity to make and renew connections with producers and industry personnel. Visitors and vendors from around the world attend, so it is another great place to expand your network. On the electronic front, the ADSA® group on Linked In now has nearly 1,900 members from around the world. It provides an opportunity to start or join discussions and is another way that you can make connections, this one without leaving your office. The ADSA Graduate Student Division (GSD) page, American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) company page, ADSA twitter page and ADSANews YouTube Channel provide additional ways to network.

Volunteer to serve – ADSA depends on volunteers for much of our success. There are many internal and external committers who are looking for interested people. Check out the list of committees and other opportunities in the Leadership area of the website and get involved. It is a great way to meet people and make a difference.

Put your membership to work and expand your personal network through the varied opportunities ADSA provides.

A reminder for all ADSA members, did you choose to use your registration for the 2020 ADSA Annual Meeting to renew your ADSA membership? If so, Thank you for being a member of ADSA! If not just a reminder that it is time for our annual membership renewal. If you are not currently am ADSA member, why not join now and take advantage of all the Benefits of Membership.
