June 2020

Join Us for this Year's
Virtual Event !

The annual AgeOptions celebration is typically the highlight of our year. We look forward to gathering with all of you to celebrate our successes, recognize our challenges, and gain your support for the work that lies ahead of us.

Please mark your calendars for our virtual event, "Celebrating Community", on Friday, July 10. This year you can leave your formal attire and dancing shoes in your closet and simply help us spread the word. When your virtual invitation arrives in your email box on the 10th, please pass it on to your friends and colleagues and help us ensure that the older adults and people with disabilities who depend on AgeOptions can continue to thrive in our community.

Illinois SNAP Recipients Can Now
Purchase Groceries Online

Illinois Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients now have the ability to purchase groceries online. The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) started providing access to online purchasing for all existing Link card holders beginning June 2. The ability to purchase food online was automatically provided to all existing Link card holders.

Current SNAP recipients will be able to purchase groceries online by entering their Personal Identification Number (PIN). Recipients can also continue to purchase groceries the traditional way.

Amazon and Walmart are the first participating retailers, and IDHS is encouraging other grocery retailers to join. To use SNAP benefits online, visit www.amazon.com/snap
or https://grocery.walmart.com/ and follow instructions on the screen.

Information and updates on the SNAP Online program are available at www.DHS.illinois.gov/OnlineSNAP .

Census Outreach  Continues

AgeOptions is continuing Census outreach with our partners to encourage every person living in Illinois to complete the 2020 Census.

As of June 22, Illinois ranked eighth in the nation with a 66.4 percent completion rate. The Cook County response rate was 61.1 percent. These rates reflect the number of people who have completed the Census form thus far.

Because of COVID-19, the self-response period has been extended to October 31, 2020, meaning residents will be able to fill out the online form, call in or mail the Census questionnaire until then.
