The 13th Annual Earlier than the Bird shopping event is planned for Saturday, November 21 ALL DAY LONG. Kick off the holiday season with friends, family, and shopping specials.

To Our Community and Friends,

Due to Covid-19, Boyne Area Community Christmas will look a lot different this year. We anticipate a greater need so we are getting started earlier. But with your help, we are confident that we can achieve our goal since 1954 of “No child in the Boyne area will be without a Christmas.”

For the safety of our volunteers and families, we are committed to following the recommended Covid guidelines from the Health Department and CDC. Therefore, the following changes have been made:

• Volunteers will be given a specific time to help pack boxes. Packing and distribution will happen on Dec. 17 and 18. Call Lisa at Boyne Area Chamber to reserve your day and time 231-582-6222.

• Donations of new, unwrapped toys and books can be dropped off at any Toys for Tots location. Boyne Area Community Christmas is the recipient of any toys collected in the Boyne area. Drop off locations TBD. Follow our Facebook page for details of needs and drop off locations.

• All food and toys will be delivered to families this year. This will require more volunteers that have a vehicle. All delivery drivers will be paired with another volunteer.

• New mailing address!! Monetary donations can be mailed to Boyne Area Community Christmas, PO Box 886, Boyne City, MI 49712

• If you are interested in volunteering to either pack boxes or for delivery please contact Lisa at 231-582-6222. ALL volunteers must be scheduled in advance. Please be prepared to wear a mask as needed.

Sign up forms for families will be distributed to ALL students that attend Boyne City and Boyne Falls Public Schools and Concord Boyne. Please look for forms in your child’s weekly folder sometime in November. Forms will also be available at the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and WIC. For further information, please contact Heather at 231-459-5588.

Boyne Thunder 2021 Planning Underway; Event Coordinator Hired

One of the best things about living in our delightful northern Michigan town is all of the events that take place to enrich our community and to welcome visitors. Did you know that each year Boyne Thunder attracts visitors from all ‘corners’ of the map? We do and, most importantly, we know that this event is held to promote and enhance two of our local charities (Camp Quality and Challenge Mountain) and their good work with children, while helping to sustain the mission of Boyne City Main Street.

The planning for Boyne Thunder is a year-round task. A committee of approximately 15 people (and hundreds of other volunteers that come together event weekend) will begin work soon in order to host one of the best poker runs anywhere. While many aspects of this event happen ‘behind the scenes,’ the final efforts are brought to life the second weekend of July every summer.

“While we will move full steam ahead to host the kind of poker run we have held in the past, we will keep an eye on best practices for gatherings this large,” said Ingrid Day, the new Event Coordinator. “We anticipate being able to welcome up to 120 participant boats next summer and trust we will have calm waters and a wonderful weekend.”

It is hard to believe that a few short days ago Lake Charlevoix was filled with boaters of all kinds and now, we can feel the cool onset of fall. So while we may be watching the boats being lifted from the water, we are here to let you know that the Boyne Thunder Planning Team is on the job.
2020 Curbside Soup Fest
Helping Kids be Kids

All proceeds will "Help Kids be Kids". Many elementary and middle school children in the Boyne City School system need our help. Many of our students are in need of additional resources.

We hope you can stop by and enjoy a homemade ready to go meal while helping out our local children! Please wear a mask to protect our staff and yourself from spreading germs. A $6 donation is suggested.

Your choice of: Split Pea, Potato Ham, White Turkey Chili, Cream of Broccoli, Butternut Squash, Italian Sausage & Tortellini, Celery Soup. Includes saltine crackers, bread, dinner rolls, and a sweet treat.

The Farley Calendar and Promotional Products Company and VP Demand Creation Services Announce a Joint Marketing and Selling Agreement!

In an effort to better reach and serve the Banking and Credit Union markets currently served by The Farley Calendar and Promotional Products Company of Boyne City, MI., Farley and VP Demand Creation Services of Traverse City will be working together to do just that. Farley, now celebrating 50 years of doing business with the financial sector nationwide, and VP, offering complementing products and services that will serve the industry well.

That, along with the addition of seasoned sales professional, Jeff Dufort, of Traverse City, to the sales efforts for both companies, should prove very beneficial for all involved. “Jeff and I shared the same profession, representing different companies, for a very long time. I am excited not only to partner with VP Demand Creation Services but also to have Jeff representing our companies in that partnership. VPDCS and Farley share a similar culture and customer bases but in complementing capacities. This partnership, along with Jeff’s sales experience and expertise, gives us a unique opportunity to offer expansive product lines and customer service that are second to none to the markets that we serve!” said Jeff Streelman, Owner of The Farley Calendar and Promotional Products Company.

“At VP Demand Creation Services, we have found numerous opportunities to deliver products and services to our national, state, and local clients from other local businesses,” said Dave Moore, owner and CEO of VPDCS. “Our Clients now utilize several of our local business partners, and we feel the products and services which The Farley Calendar and Promotional Products Company offers are a natural fit for our clients, as well”

“The Farley Calendar and Promotional Products Company and VPDCS have similar client bases, so having one sales rep/contact person makes sense. I am honored to be representing these two great companies,” said Jeff Dufort, Business Development Manager for both VPDCS and Farley. For more information on both companies please visit www.farleycalendars.com and www.VPdemandcreation.com
D&W Fresh Market partners with Manna Food Project during scan campaign to provide hunger relief

Between October 28 and November 8, store guests who visit the D&W Fresh Market on US-31 will have the opportunity to donate $1, $5, $10, or round up their purchase at any checkout lane and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit Manna Food Project and its hunger relief programs.
Throughout the year, SpartanNash—and its family of retail stores, including D&W—underwrites companywide retail scan campaigns in partnership with its charitable giving arm, the SpartanNash Foundation. The upcoming campaign supports the Foundation’s mission of providing hunger relief in our communities, and each of SpartanNash’s corporate-owned stores is partnering with a nearby food pantry.
In 2019, The SpartanNash Foundation’s scan campaign to provide hunger relief raised $271,000 to support more than 100 local food pantries and food banks. This year’s campaign will happen over the course of 12 days, with participating stores and fuel centers in eight states.
One hundred percent of all funds raised by D&W in Petoskey will go directly to Manna, which will in turn have a huge impact on the food insecure families it serves through its onsite community food pantry as well as its distribution to over 50 partner agencies.
“With COVID-19 still present and the winter season approaching, hunger relief organizations like Manna face much uncertainty,” says Kim Baker, executive director of Manna Food Project. “Any support during these critical times is much appreciated.”
Baker also notes that the Family Fare and D&W stores in Charlevoix, Bellaire, Mancelona, Boyne City, and East Jordan are also participating and supporting Manna’s food pantry partners in those locations.
The D&W Fresh Market benefiting Manna Food Project is located at 1163 U.S. 31 North. For more information on the SpartanNash’s campaigns, visit https://www.spartannash.com/corp-responsibility/foundation/retail-scan-partners/.
